Trapped in a well?

Suppose it were possible for a character to fall into a deep well, or otherwise get into some place you could not escape from by yourself.

Is it possible to kill yourself so you respawn at your spawn point?
Could you log out, and log back in to your spawn point?
Is there any other way you could transport away under your own power?

If not, would it be possible to hold a character in such a place against their will, as a prisoner?

Asking for a friend.

It the April 2022 Dev Livestream, Steven alludes to drowning yourself if your ship is destroyed at sea and you don't have a Mount that can help you swim back to land.
Highly unlikely there will be a suicide feature you can use to port to spawn point. If you fall into a hole that you can't get out of, you might be able to /stuck and respawn nearby.

Steven does not want people to be able to use suicide as a form of fast travel.
Steven also does not want it to be possible to hold another player against their will.
  • Maybe there is a sort of spawn point for every X sq.km. of land. This point should probably be in the middle of nowhere - resource and settlement wise - so that it serves only its intended purpose.

Basically, lets say you are stuck. You can use a spell to spawn at this point and this spell will have a cooldown of an hour or more so that it is not abusable for fast travel as you never know when you might need it. One issue with this is that this point can be camped by corrupted players, but AoC is owPvP so its ok I suppose as the chances of spawning at a camped point would be quite low.

Most games have a recall feature. Usually you have to specify the recall location by visiting and activating that location. That eliminates the chance of cheating by abusing the recall to "jump forward".
A massive cooldown is also a safeguard.

IIRC, Steven said in the April 2022 Dev Livestream that Ashes does not have the equivalent of a Recall Stone.

Probably will just have a an unstuck button that moves your character. Steven has also said he is encouraging his GMs to play alongside the playerbase so while they are working they might come save you after they had a good laugh.

    Yes.

Being "stuck in a well" is a bug. There is no game designer who will intentionally create a feature that traps a character. It happens, in my experience it is usually when a tree or rock or other irregular piece of the landscape is placed in such a way that collision detection traps you between it and a wall or sharp slope when you fall in just the wrong spot.

MMORPGs going back as far as I remember have always had ways to deal with that. Heck, in EverQuest we had a /rewind command to get out of being stuck. There should be no need for a '"suicide" option.
