What you DONT like about Lost Ark

What dont you like about Lost Ark and hope AoC wont add?
For me:
The honing system.
The Asian + system has always been extremly P2W.
The best gear should be from skill, not RNG.
Timegating
Timegating content to specific times a day becomes FOMO and makes you miss out on alot of content.
Players should be able to do the content whenever they want.
Raidlocks are ok.
Only endgame content beeing dailys.
Western mmorpg players dont like daily quests in general.

Not an open-world. For example when I hit 50 I wanted to go to Purapika or whatever but as I was sailing there was an invisible wall telling me I couldn't go further until I unlocked something or completed a quest
Not a fan of click to move MMOs
P2W
No good PvP
Too much instanced content
No social aspect. I went from 1 to 50 without ever interacting with another player
Bots everywhere
Voice acting is bad
Story is bad
I hate that if I want to play a certain class and it happens to be genderlocked to Female, I have no option but to wear skimpy armour. For example, there's next to no gear for Deathblade that isn't skimpy/cleavage/tights etc.
The card system is trash
AoC obviously won't be in the same top-down format, but it *really* bothered me that you only got a 3D-view of the world from special look-out points, in Lost Ark. I mean they bothered to render everything as a 3D object - so why not allow us to free-move the camera while standing still? Top-down made it feel like a 2D-game in which you could move in all 4 compass directions.
While the combat was good for Lost Ark, I've got a distaste for systems where it's 100% action-style combat. Am trying Neverwinter, where it's fun - but nearly all fights are against groups of enemies in Neverwinter, and there are nonetheless abilities that will only hit single enemies.
Lost Ark is the most-pure action-style combat system yours truly has seen, and it's kind of fun - but I feel as though it has too much of an "arcade" feel - and I wouldn't want that in Ashes.
I dunno why it matters what we don't like about it since it's not the same genre as MMORPG.
Ashes is not trying to emulate Lost Ark.
But I don’t think the Lost Ark devs understand what cosmetics are, because they have stats on them. So you can equip a cosmetic purely for the bonuses it gives you. Oh, but don’t worry, if you don’t like the look of the cosmetic item you can hide it through the interface.
Yes, they actually have “cosmetics” that give you stats and might not be visible.
Eastern MMO designers generally don’t know what they’re doing.
Lost Ark has a great Art style though.
I think some daily quests in the End game are absolutely Okay and even more if they're optional.
but if there are 37 Daily quests like in.. WoW its just annoying and you feel pressured to do everything. everyday.. meh.
Timegating will play some kind of a role with the Information that some stuff and even Raid bosses are locked behind Weather / Seasons.
- lack of social interaction (waiting at lullaby island was the most interaction I had with strangers)
- main story quest / level up to 50 was unengaging. Needed a skip button.
- vertical gear progression was RNG pass/fail. Especially frustrating when gear score is used for gate-keeping content.
- cosmetics with stats
- menial dailies
- extensive instancing
How do you encourage grown adults to interact with strangers like kids do?
That said to bring a positive I’m enjoying the rapport/reputation system and it’s reward structure
@JamesResend Aye - I hate the current trend of FOMO that a lot of games have come to incorporate. It's one of the reasons I've walked away from the MMO my long-time community is presently based in. One might argue that FOMO is right up there with P2W, since both elements are largely based upon an over-abundance of time/dedication/personal resources with which to invest into a game.
I'm personally fine with daily stuff. I find its a good way to segment off gameplay and "put down the game for the day".
Never write off competition. Look at their successes and failures and grow from them.
Its not about competition, its about game mechanics and subsystems

But 70% of comments aboth seam to be written by players who didnt played Lost Ark at all so let me jump in with my 1000+ h
P2W in both games NOT PRESSENT
Long Term grind in both games Pressent
Lost Ark Story *hust* "Asia Stories are always trash but the games dont even try to have a good story
im annoied by the fact we are forced to play the story even if its useless. (Content lock)as in FF14....
The GearScore system is pretty good established , but most western player dont like it if the have to do something in order to get anything, they want it so easy even a 3 year old could get endgear in 2 h. I like the system its well rounded and achieves its goal.
Skins with stats ..... All skins grand the same effects and are achievable throw playing. Don´t get why u would blame it. I dont understand why its existing but it doesnt realy matter since it just more dmg overall.
Dailies well yea Asia style , i wouldnt mind them if they would be enaging but sadly its for 3 year olds and western audiance
Well yea nearly all of the content is in instances but thats a design joice and it was a good one
Get to South Vern and u get open PvPvE
Insanly fun Combat but some stats "Swiftness" are just Broken af while "Endurance" is entirly useless
Cool Arena PvP could use some tweaking aswell
What i Dislike about Lost Ark would be
-Good content "Raids" only once per week + *würg* Alts
-Alts are kinda necessary (Honing is boosted but the dumb story is not/Should be the otherway around)
-Its more a western problem "Textbook gamers" , always spoilering themself and mates in Fightmechanics
No1 is willing to learn (Note: I played 100% blind and cleared all content mostly first try or up to 5 tries)
- To easy
- Marketboard simulator / after Dailies/Weeklies are done
- Once u are overgeared 95% of the time content is .....
I want to be able to do the hardest content in the best way possible but i cant learn or test stuff cause i can only enter once a week ...
former Hardcore PvPer in multiple games Ranked in the Top 10
dislikes QoL / Quality of Lazyness
there is no "it´s to hard" only "u are to bad"
General opinions from an outsider perspective, sure.
Also, @Lyrienthena this thread asked specifically for what I don't like...
which is why I left out:
- bossing (chaos gates/boss rush/etc.)
- combat
- Tripod system
- mokokos (really well placed)
- beautiful scenery (sucks that it was stuck in isometric view)
- some islands are true gems (others are a real pain)
- stronghold
Those were pretty greatFor me the deal breaker was the tiresome honing rate to reach Argos.
Having progress artificially gated and being forced to grind for no reason at all was a let down.
I disagree about P2W being not-a-thing in Lost Ark - it doesn't matter to me if it's not as bad as BDO or Maplestory or gacha games, the fact that Real Money can be converted directly into in-game gold is absolutely pay to win. Even the devs have admitted and apologized by their own analysis that Mari's shop and scalpers have a huge advantage.
I'm always amazed at how shortsighted (or devious) developers can be.
I think I've recently had a check around for 'mid-to-large MMOs that were systems-good/relatively fairly balanced on release/month 1' for the last 8 years and found precisely zero instances. How did we get to the point where literally EVERY game that is released overlooks something obvious about the way players will play it or bots will dominate it or a primary system will be abused and has to backtrack, go F2P, or tell their players 'it is what it is' and give them token participation rewards for showing up?
Now I gotta check if Mortal Online 2 is still managing...
EDIT: Absolutely nope, it is not.
1. Bosses that do not have health bars. They did get away from that eventually but what a horrid idea.
2. The near mandatory requirement to play ALTS....BUT...incorporating a system that makes it difficult to collect and pass down gear for the ALTS, which leads me to...
3. Having a Marketplace that requires a token(Pheons) just to purchase things. These tokens are not given via encounters but rather sold or given in dailies.... occasionally.
4. A gear leveling system that relies on Random Chances with an eventual pity counter. At first it is not that bad, but it gets down right frustrating Post 1415. The amount needed increases while the chances decrease. It eventually just leads to players stopping because there is no visible increase in power with the amount of time it takes to increase gear Ilevels.
5. A random system of loot(Stones and Jewelry) that randomizes almost every aspect of the item with certain skill sets being obviously more rare than others. I am looking at you Grudge, Adrenaline and Cursed Doll.
6. A quest system that is so bad that it is painful having to go back through it for an ALT. They do award passes for this but ironically do not actually sell them. Idiots...
7. A fairly poor chat system.
8. No control over BoTS in the game that has made playing on the West Coast a waste of time due to ques caused by the excessive amount of them. I was at least on the East Coast. Why does anybody play on the West Coast at this point.
9. A very unbalanced and untested PvP system.
10. A class system that is mainly DPS with a little bit of support. Makes for a boring game when almost every class is just a different way of DPSing. I played the Gunlancer which was as close to a tank as the game had.
11. I am really over the Angle view of the game and want to go back to 1st person now. It made for many areas that a player could move against but not see the obstacle. It also made it more difficult for raids when attempting to figure out safe areas verse things like twisters.
12. A guild system that limits the amount of players that can join in because god forbid if your ALTS get to enjoy the benefits of being in the same guild.
13. An engraving system that is fine until you want the very last legendary set and realize it will cost you an insane amount of gold for the popular ones.
14. A gold system that is used for many aspects of the game with few ways of earning it(Cannot play the market very well when you have to have Pheons).
15. Daily rewards. Thankfully this has been shot down as an idea for Ashes of Creation.
16. A crafting system that had very little to do with the actual gear you used. It was mainly for food, Secret Maps(Used for Bonus reward % Items to increase chances of success when upgrading gear).
17. I saved this one for last but it is actually for me the most irritating aspect of the game. If I am going to Raid big boss monsters(Read most difficult) with multiple players(8 Usually), I expect to actually be able to find gear that I can actually make use of more than 1-100 times. Out of 4 characters, I actually equipped something I had found ...........3 times. That is mind boggling. Players MUST use the auction house to gear out their characters. This is why they have Pheons and why they sell them, mainly.
That is the real list. I am sure there are more things but Lost Ark is not even close to what I consider an ideal MMO and honestly it is barely even an MMO. The player to player interaction is extremely low save for needing them in certain aspects of the game.
I would hope that the development team for AoC would NOT mimic most of how that game operates.
The meaning of the topic is so that Intrepid can get an idea on what systems we the players like and dont like from Lost Ark. i.e if they consider adding something that akin to the honing system, they can see that players dont like it.
What you are refering to is if one game would take players from the other, which isnt mentioned anywhere in the topic.

I said they aren't the same genres so devs shouldn't be trying to adapt Lost Ark features for Ashes gameplay.
I did say that some games use the label "Action RPG" to try to lure RPG players to play a Hack & Slash that really does not even allow any RP. But, that's not about taking players from a game.
