Quality of gear versus method of aquisition

Please let me prephase this by saying I am not familiar with everything Ashes of Creation. This question may have been answered already.

I was initially led to believe that the very best equipment would be hand-crafted, and raid loot would be comparable.

In a recent video, Steven explained that the best in slot items would only be aquired from killing open world raid bosses. Have this changed over time, or did I initially misunderstand loot aquisition?

I am perfectly fine with limiting the absolutely best items to raid drops (or best crafted items requiring raid dropped components) - but if active players can simply raid for top end gear, would that not diminish the value of mastering a craft, and collaborating with other players to collect, refine and craft high end equipment?

best gear will be crafted, but for that you also need legendary mats that you get from legendary world bosses

BiS will be crafted (as well as dropped), but there might be "stronger" 1 of a kind unique gear pieces that drop from bosses. And we'll only see what that "stronger" means once we have the full picture of all the gear in the game.

Alright, thank you both for the response.

Just to add to the excellent responses above, @Sjelden, there will still be instanced dungeons and raids (in addition to open world dungeons).

But, the legendary loot drop emphasis will be in the open world dungeons and instanced raids ... in addition to crafted.

Which aligns to Steven's most recent comments.

Ya I would imagine legendary mats will be dropping also, and hopefully a on par crafting blueprint that will be pretty much equal to the dropped stuff, maybe with limited uses, or at least the material be very hard to obtain

Just to make sure, BiS will not drop from instanced content

I suppose guilds will resort to funneling money and mats to specific crafters to master each crafting profession and provide gear for everyone, similar to New World?

Depending on how profession progress will work, guilds will most likely have their own crafters at the peak of each artisan profession. And then they might sell their services to other people to earn some money on top of the potential sales of the crafted gear.

Funneling mats can be tricky, I prefer crafters get tp the required level before being helped, to show they WANT to do it, instead of be funneled mats (like in New World) and never do a damn thing for themselves, then quit the game or the guild.

Was that in guilds that just invited random people during the game itself? Cause I'm used to guilds that gather together way before the launch, plan their actions ahead and have designated people who know for sure they'll go down some particular progress path. And even if they leave, they'd usually share their acc info with others in the guild, so they could use the character.

Nope, these were established guilds. It can happen to any guild, not to mention people taking all your money out of the bank from people you trusted. Happens way to much now a day.
