Fighters and their weapons - namakura

Hi!
I saw the demo where the fighters sword touch the ground very often and there is effects that show collision detection with the ground/floor/earth.
I understand you want to show that collison detection system, but two things:

* A fighter does not want his/her weapon to be blunt. Not even a magical weapon :) Even if the sword is heavy, you do not put a sharp edge into the ground that often.
* Make the visual effect less fireworkery. It is to much and to often.

So in short: Kill your darlings. Raise the sword fighting animation 10-20 cm up from the flat ground. When it still hits, nerf the visual.

Maybe make the lightning effects from the swinging sword only 50 % visible while you change the effects :)

Great demo otherwise!

If a blade is magically sharp, doesn't matter what you do with it, it will never be dull.

I love the ground decals and want to see more of that... even if it's just a cosmetic movement I can purchase where I can run trailing the blade behind me, scoring the ground along the way and then slamming the ground in front of me similar to the Hammer Strike.

Not something anyone on Sanctus would ever want to do...
But, we should revel in the freedom to do that on Verra.

I assume you have the same issue with using your sword on someone wearing plate armor then - because that will do more damage to a finely sharpened blade than touching the ground with it ever will.

It's a fantasy game where humans can perform impressive feats. And you would rather have a less impressive animation for the sake of edge bluntness realism?
I like the ground slam. Shows reckless abandon and strength.

    Yeah, I'd thought the same.

What's your alternative against someone in armour? Hope they take it off? You don't have to stick your blade into the floor. If you're fighting an enemy in armour, you pretty much do have to attack them with it.

Something big and heavy, like a hammer or mace.

The funny thing about a suit of plate armor, if it has a big dent in it, it tends to not move how it should.

One solid hit even in the chest of a suit of plate armor could well deform it enough to restrict arm movement. One hit in the shoulder, and that arm isn't moving at all.

That said, I am not the one asking for ridiculous realism in an MMO. I'm happy to let people scrape their sword across the ground.

No ones even bringing up the enemies they attacked in the video were... made of the ground..... rock golems.... earth elementals. Whatever you want to call them... but yeah, dont hit the ground, just hit the enemies made of rock
