Bard secondary class and augments theories - AOE sleep, Group run speed, Group melee haste

This sheet contains potential active skill examples for a Bard archetype, and theoretical augments for each secondary archetype.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1neXhCxv_rFh9QcgWdHdoAnJiB8eBMOBMf0kQgJpMkv8/edit?usp=sharing

It covers the following Bard skills, and augment examples for each of the other 7 archetypes. (24 theoretical skills)
  • AOE Sleep (damage breaks)
  • Group run speed
  • Group melee haste

This is all theory, but I did it to see if others agree that these are what the developers are intending when they describe augments. When you pick your second archetype, you can choose to apply augments to each of your skills, or leave them as they are. So I could be a Bard+Rogue with AOE disarm, Group run speed, and Group melee proc poison.

I had fun exploring these possible augments for 3 classic Bardic skills. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, those sound realistic. Hope we learn more about Bards soon. L2 had amazing bards that were the backbone of the game and I definitely want AoC's bards to be the same.
  • I hope the Bard in AOC is like the Everquest Bard. The Bard class in the original Everquest was my favorite class of a classes in every MMO I have ever played.
  • I hope they find a way to modernize these skills, and work out all the large group combat issues that would make one particular group comp impossible to take down. Bards / CC classes were the backbone of PVP in DAOC too. Hard CC like this has not been popular with players in general in many years, so I hope they will be careful in how its implemented so it doesn't just end up getting nerfed until Bards just become buffbots.

I think a decent way of limiting a few buffing auras is with coditional factors.

Adds bonus healing to an ally who is hit by a heal. So only applies with an ally cleric.

Add x% movement speed to party, for each class that is part ranger in the party. Things like that
  • I don't know if I'd feel like picking a Bard, which is already going to include significant downsides, if my group buffs had a ton of additional requirements that I can't control. Maybe there is a need to limit buffs but I'm not sure why you think there is a need for that.

Every other bard post becomes, how do we stop them from being over powered, so i just drop that thought and move on from them.
  • Ah! Haha - I could never see Bard's being overpowered. But they can make a good group great. Its one of the classes, possibly like Clerics, who will have the toughest time soloing. But this is the trade-off, they are desired by groups and they WANT to be in groups.
