Can the combatant status be used for pve penalty reductions?

What I mean by this is that normally if a player dies while green it's more penalizing than if they died purple. You lose more exp, materials, etc. So, for areas like open world battlegrounds, caravans, and the open seas, will you still have these reduced penalties If an npc kills you or you take environmental damage that kills you?

No. They said that even if you are a purple and you die to something else other than a player you will still get 100% of the death losses.

The Wiki says "Death penalties do not differ between PvP and PvE, but this is subject to change."

So i would say yes? Atleast for now due to it being "subject to change" its from 2017 tho. min 36:23

if you die during the time you are flagged, then yes. Death Penalties do not differ between dying in a PvE and Dying in a PvP Situation by our latest information (which honestly is pretty hold).
You cant just randomly flag though shortly before death. You actually need to attack and hit another player to become purple.

Unknown how it will work in these open world battlegrounds (including the open sea and caravans).
