    Not if it had the weight of the actual resources.
    Caravan is technically 100x the weight of what is carried in a backpack.

    My personal hope would be that you don't need to bring 10 mules with completely empty inventories just to loot a caravan.

    The design is almost assuredly that if you bring 8 (full party) defenders, and 8 (full party) attackers then take down your caravan, those 8 people should be able to receive the reward.

    Yes, a single player could. Steven made it sound like the attackers fighting for the loot after breaking the caravan is part of the intended design.

    You'd have to be quick, though.
    Likely quite a bit of competition trying to snatch up dropped certs.
    Including the defenders.
