How will corruption work on the zone mechanics?

Since the corruption spreads from the The Harbingers and transforms both the zone and the mobs inside it, how will this effect gatherables and mob drops? Will it change the drops entirely and we can use them for different recipes, will they be unusable and we will have to purify them first or will they just be something like the shards in the alpha that we can only give to the NPC's in exchange for gold or something?
