I think people are missing the actual definitions of the terms being used.
    • A tab-targeted ability is something that must have a target for in order to utilize the skill.
    • An action skill is anything that can be utilized through placement of the player, such as a reticle, a ground template or a directional placement.

Ashes by definition is Hybrid, and to a lesser extent so are most MMOs. Example: WoW has template AOE and Cone attacks (action). WoW also lacks a reticle, and auto(basic) attacks are not controlled or aimed by the player (tab).
If you're saying that all MMORPGs are hybrid Tab Target and Action Combat - you would then have to accept that the meaning is relative. And that conotation is specific to MMORPGs.

And personally - I like all the styles of MMO combat, just as long as it's fun (subjective).
And, yes, what style of combat equals fun is going to be relative to the specific genre.
Just because one style is fun in one genre does not mean that style fits well with a different genre.

I'm assuming you're replying to me.

You're correct fun is subjective, and with AoC subject to testing, balance, and change.
Until we can actually do the above, we're all talking on speculation on how 'fun' it will be for both sides of the coin.

High skill ceiling is good it means pve and pvp will be more challenging. That being said people playing action based mmorpgs don't need it to be like a shooter where you need to be precise Soft lock is best way to go, and projectiles can have travel time and be blocked by things or skills.

    not true action combat

    Correct, it's hybrid.

since its not based on your aiming ability

Did you not watch the linked videos? They don't require a target to use them, they are action abilities.

So then every MMORPG is a hybrid combat then, Arcane explosion/frost nova from WoW can be used without targets.

yeah i can shoot a bow randomly in the air but that seem to fuction like tab target combat atm hover a cursor near somone garanteed hit lock onto somone shoot 90 degrees away from them still hit its like u locked onto a target like tab target :P

From many more perspectives than just two sides of a coin.
