Suggestion for freeholds - player created library

I think a nice addition to freeholds that can make them more interesting is being able to create a library with books that the owner of the freehold writes. It will give the owner a way to express himself and write about whatever he wants and other players will be able to go to his library and read his (probably gay anime fanfic) books. Other players will be able to thumb up / down whatever book they read.
In addition, it could be cool if in a scientific node you could go to the library building and get a list of the most upvoted books in the node / server and get a location marker so they can go read it.
What do you think?

  • Hahaha, the dumb s**t meme factory this would be....

    Yes, sure, let's do it.

this is a really cool idea, but I imagine the manpower needed to make this a reality across all freeholds/nodes would be insane. Also I can see someone uploading their 500 page fanfic 100 times to fill their bookshelf being a thing. I definitely believe this could be a cool or interesting idea when used in practice (logging harvests/boss history on a node/guildmember foot notes/etc.) but knowing the MMO community we will get fanfics and RL cooking recipes.
  • I mean it is known that you can create books and notes as a Scriber. If you need a whole library for it - I don't think so maybe a handfull.
Additional to that you can furnish your House/Freehold/Appartment with all kind of furniture provided by a Carpenter !
I'm very confident there also will be book shelfs which you can fill up with the books you or somebody else have filled up with Text

I would have a legitimate use for this!

In EVE we have an actual ingame Notepad tool, just like the Windows Notepad!

We have folders and notepad files.
We can also write notes in the other player's profile, so we can have notes about them, what they did, who they are, who that alt belongs to, etc.
We also have ingame email, just like real life, we can't attach files, that's the only limitation
    We also have ingame maillists.
We also have personal contacts, corporation contacts and alliance contacts... all those with colored standings settings from red -10 to blue +10!

So... that's how we organize intel about hundreds or even thousands of people, that's how we track down who are our friends and allies!
Who are the spies, who's alts of who, who are their friends and enemies, etc.

In AoC how will we organize stuff?
AoC for sure will have a lot of diplomacy and politics and bad blood.

Well, if we could have a library we could have a secretary or a librarian organizing stuff and writting down what is relevant.
PvE means: A handful of coins and a bag of boredom.
  • I would love it but I fear there might be an influx of lore breaking books coming to the library so on topics related to ingame world, it would require someone to lore check the books before being allowed to the library? of course asking that from the devs would be too much so... we need a librarian rank into the city? or community checks the books before they are accepted into libraries.

He suggested for freeholds, so it would be your personal book collection, you could write anything you want including erotic furry stories.

  • Omg erotic furry stories , delicious @Arya_Yeshe :joy:

Yea that can be of use for the guild, but you're bringing an actually interesting point, maybe tagging people and adding notes about them can be part of the scrying profession. It could be really cool if you can tag someone and then you can see where they are on the minimap / world map and when they log in or out, and can attach notes to them, but only if you're proficient enough in scrying. This would be awesome to know where an enemy guild leader is, where a person that uses expensive caravans is or maybe just to find your friend.
  • What about having some official AOC lore books in public library in metropolis? With them being interactive and displaying images and art pictures making them feel super magical and inmersive, even with some video animations like Harry Potter newspapers. Would be fun as hell. Also in such library some sort of history of the server automatically generated by an AI designed by Intrepid?

AOC lore books in library of metropolis can be really nice, but auto generated history of the server could potentially break the grand lore of the game. What will be interesting IMO is for the devs to add each week / month a few books to the library talking about the lore of the game, this will allow for the devs to build the world in a staggered way where they don't dump all the info right at the start but trickle in information.

It's easy, we make a forum called AoCBlah (brownies for those who get the reference) and then constantly shitpost and stir up drama among the server. Everyone will rat on eachother. Problem solved :)

Yes. Good idea of not releasing all lore right away but wait for libraries or some high level similar location to slowly start showing "ancient texts" discovered or something. I hope such ancient books display amazing art and design so it becomes an inmersive experience like reading some magical enchanted tome.

One thing that could be done by Intrepid is a node log, that's all.

When it leveled, the patron guilds, when stuff were built, wars, etc... VERY BASIC stuff, just having the chronology.

That makes sense, can be very interesting to see the history of the node, it's like the people themselves make history

The freehold library can be also taken one step further. What if you could record recipes you find in a recipe book and put in the library and then people that come to your freehold can read (let's say max 3) recipes and learn them.
It adds a level of interaction that makes people to want to come to your freehold specifically, like for example if someone needs a certain recipe he asks in the guild chat if anyone has it in their freehold and then goes there to learn it.
Another option is to allow people that read a book that you acquired in the library to gain experience in a specific skill, kinda like in elder scrolls 3 morrowind, it's another way to make freehold more intractable with other players.
