Glorious Alpha Two Testers!

Alpha Two Realms are now unlocked for Phase II testing!

For our initial launch, testing will begin on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 10 AM Pacific and continue uninterrupted until Monday, January 6, 2025, at 10 AM Pacific. After January 6th, we’ll transition to a schedule of five-day-per-week access for the remainder of Phase II.

How will AOC design the ingame chat?

Hello guys. Has Intrepid talked about their ideas for chat in game yet? I sometimes feel that having global chat for the entire map of a MMO makes the world feel smaller. I would love more regionalized chats and maybe the metropolises could have access to something else, I don't know.

Could someone enlighten me on what Steven has said regarding this? And if nothing has been said yet, what do you guys think would be an ideal design for ingame chats in nodes, regions, continents, etc?

    I agree that world chat is bad for the reaon you said. It's also filled with silly spam or wtb wtt wts. Rolls so quick you'd think you are in some twitch room.

    Area proximity /shout is good. Helps with grouping or antagonizing, which is good for owmmos.

    There is no global chat.

    There are chats you can use globally: Guild, Alliance, Node, Social Organization, Religion, and custom chat channels,

    But all 10,000 players will not be in one singular chat channel no.

    It's a very good question and will impact how people perceive the game and player population. Freeform chat, regionally or otherwise, could become a mess no matter what AoC does, people being people. Hopefully AoC attracts "the right kind of player", whatever that becomes.

    As long as I have a mute or ignore button I could care less about chat. Although I do like the idea of no global chat to go along with the other regional differences we hope to see.
