Bounty Hunter: Mercenary

Mercenary could be something within the Bounty Hunter tree

The idea is letting them aid in node sieges and guild wars.

Payment in a guild war or node siege:
  • mayor/client defines how much gold for the job, let's say there's 5000 gold
  • mayor/client defines payment based on gold per level: 10 gold per level? if the BH kills four level 20s then he killed 80 levels, he gets 800 gold from those 5000
  • there's still 4200 gold on the table, if more mercenaries show up they can still kill 420 levels from the adversaries

PvE means: A handful of coins and a bag of boredom.

If there is something like this put in the game it would be community based and not system based. If it where to be system based I would rather it not be for BHs in general. A bounty hunter, at least according to the wiki, is only available from quests in a Military node. The mercenary mechanic should be something all nodes could do.

This is about the flagging system, this would let outsiders to have to right of fighting without being corrupted

This would let a smaller group have enough people to fight a bigger group in wars, then both sides can have equal numbers

Blobbing and zergging in PvP kills PvP, but if people can have roughly the same amount of people then both sides will get good fights

@koltovince The quest to become a BH is only available in a Military node, quite right. However, someone could be a citizen of that node, do the quest and become a BH, then renounce their citizenship....or that node could lose a siege and go 'Poof'. Either way, that person could then become a citizen of another node.

Nodes can have 'Chief Bounty Hunters' (wiki: Chief bounty hunter is a node government title that grants special access to NPCs in a node.[10]") and that seems to imply nodes of all kinds, not just military nodes.

Yes, to me it should feel like losing your driver's license! :p

Bounty Hunting is a public service, makes sense losing it if the node gets destroyed, then you would have to apply for the job elsewhere

  • Good idea. But in order not to unbalance the guild wars and node wars too much when one of the sides is too rich I would suggest a very limited number of mercenaries to be hired by each node /guild.

Maybe through guild talent tree or economic nodes it would increase and the level of the Node. But it should never be too much mercenaries allowed or it would be unfair for the weaker and poorer factions.

Last time I checked the siges will have the same number of people, limited to 250 x 250, a study would be conducted to see if it is possible supporting 500 x 500

So my concern was not just adding player driven content, but also bringing your node to this 250 cap
maybe the attackers bring 250 but you have only 200... for now the mayor can hire NPC Mercenaries and bring this number to 250

But player mercenaries probably will be better, lets say the defenders have 200 people only, then 20 player mercenaries show up and then the mayor would have to hire only 30 npc mercenaries

Its fun for the players who are playing as mercenaries and the pvp result will be of better quality

Maybe they could play as mercenaries for other nodes too, nodes which no connections with their own node... this brings the possibility of running a band of mercenaries who travel to various nodes

Bounty Hunters being able to play as mercenaries is still a valid idea, since they could aid in:
    • node sieges
    • castle sieges

    Maybe a specialization?
Maybe one of the options in the bounty hunter progression?

They should at least be able to aid the defenders during sieges, that would be the bare minimal

The topic deserved a bump because this new topic:
