Life Skillers Issues and what we are facing!

Hello everyone! First, I would like to say that the ‘Life Skill’ video is looks good! I also couldn't believe what I am seeing! Tree falling physics? It’s brilliant!! But… here is the thing. Also, please understand that I don’t want to make this post to rant or make PVP players hate Life Skillers even more. I just like to voice my views for the Life Skillers and for those Life Skillers who cannot voice their opinion and what they have to deal with.

In some current PVX MMO games and previous titles, many Life Skillers are getting so much hate and giving us nicknames (yes, we do have a lot of nicknames) just because the activities we do are bad, boring and going as far as to calling us: care-bears (one of the nickname). But, for us Life Skillers, the activities are actually relaxing, fun to RP and rewarding (in a way from our point of view). You name it: Butchering, Gathering Herbs, Fishing, Tanning Hides for crafting and even cooking (there are more, I know). We do it because we find it fun like you PVPer find it fun to challenge yourself with another player.

Second, many players despise us because we are weak, useless and have no places in PVX. Yes, we have to deal with this ongoing problem. Even worse, there are groups of PVPs (which are not real PVP players), they keep targeting us for easy targets and telling us to “get gud!” Like seriously? We are just life-skillers and minding our own. We can’t defend ourselves. The only thing we have is tools…tools to chop trees as an example and clothes (some games do make us wear clothes for different Life-Skills).

Third, this game has great potential and I would like to say from my heart that we want to be part of the PVX world and enjoy the “Risk VS Reward” too, plus other things which Ash of Creation has to offer! Please understand that we like to support the PVP / PVE by supplying the goods, be on the side-lines or frontline (like a life-skiller medic) and craft things for you, so, you can have fun and progress! But please hear us out developer and everyone, please… we would like a stable system where we can protect ourselves and help the PVE/PVP in anyway we can! If the corruption system and other mechanics are done right then we will stay and put our flags up to support Seiges, Node Wars, Large Scale Wars and etc. We want to enjoy and be part with all of you PVE/PVP players.

Fourth, I understand that it takes time for plants / trees and other biomes to grow. If too many groups farm for that one specific place, it’s going to cause a lot of issues. I understand the mechanics and the game is new. As a life-skiller myself, I am seeing that it will be a big major problem if the server becomes too overpopulated and the biomes can’t keep up. Not only that, from the back of my head, there will be guilds that will camp there to kill life skillers and block others from collecting and harvest things. I have a feeling it will happen at one point and heavy griefing will happen? This in turn will also make a lot of Life Skillers ‘body-throw’ where the situation will turn toxic or worse!

Fifth, please devs, as said please create a good system where Life-Skillers are not useless! I would like to see a good / healthy Life Skill system where we can support the PVE/PVP players to large scale WARS! We like to coexist and have fun!

We don’t want to be called care-bears. It’s insulting! We would like to be useful in anyway we can on the side-lines and frontline!

Another post making me more sad than the last.

I hope you find a game and community you enjoy.

  • You spoke about highly competitive pvpers, you spoke right.
One thing they cannot understand is that they have compulsive aninalistic nature in competition. They only enjoy watching others below them and they enjoy being better then any cripple person thats under them. That means its an animalistic behaviour.
They are the problem in MMO genre and more and more people are starting to understand that.
Their personas are only projecting in video game. Selfish and impatient people are those that strive to be better then someone else.
It happens often to those compulsive beings to overthrow someone for their own selfish desires, thats the end of the ends of competitive person, this what we see in games is slight form of that yet not very dangerous one because its a game, but each and every one of them has hidden monster that can be fed.
They are problem of society, this is a game and this is their projection.

@Kitamura_Ko I'm curious to know your pov on this kind of mechanic. What if you had a higher chance to get killed, but also an almost 100% chance to get your lost resources back and a buff to your artisan profession yields for some period of time. Would this be worse than just rarely getting killed, but definitely not getting your stuff back?

Obviously the "not getting killed at all" would be much better, but out of those two - which would you prefer?

Not many Life-Skillers will agree to this pov. But here goes!

As a life-skiller myself, I would prefer if I lose my stuff and try again differently or be creative IF THERE IS a good 'corruption system' that is fair and balanced for all sides: PVP - PVE - Life Skillers. Also the system must be good enough to keep PKers at bay. They are not true PVPer, just bad players in the Life Skillers eyes.

Second, we don't want buffs. Just a debuff to the PKers only that repeatedly kill Life Skillers and think it's funny! However, please don't debuff real PVPer who are defending their friends from another group of Life-Skillers. I've seen there are good PVPer that support Life Skillers! Please!

And that's exactly what I was thinking about. I want to push towards a proper balancing of the corruption system, where repetitive kills from the same person would fuck over that person, while one/two-off kills from different people on the same player could still happen somewhat often.

But that higher rate of deaths would be outweighed by BHs returning the victim's mats to them and the game providing a small buff to let the victim come back to their pre-death state faster (cause death has quite a few penalties).

To me it seems fair, because the victim will almost always get revenged and get their lost stuff back, while people can still PK someone else w/o destroying their character immediately, all the while the BH system is completely justified because it is the exact thing that provides the returnal of mats and the buff for the victim.

Which is why I asked about it. I'm a pvper, so I wouldn't know what is the bigger evil for the gatherer - is it the death itself or the losses related to it. Cause if it's purely the fact of dying at the hands of another player - Ashes will be a hard game to play for people with that issue. But if it's the loss of mats/time - that could be addressed, w/o effectively removing open world pvp.

Also, please don't forget that a true life-skillers does not "body-throw" themselves at another player. We just ignore the opposing player. But if they annoy us like crazy and impede our gameplay then we will need to take action. Many life-skillers today in BDO just body-throw because they are angry and want to be left alone. It's sad... we are sorry too. But.... as said, if the corruption system is good then we don't have to resort to being so low and toxic too. :(

Yeah, both sides have their shitty people that ruin the whole name of the group for the rest of said group.

Idk maybe if you're getting killed and people are telling you it's because you're hurting the land management, maybe go somewhere else to gather? That's one of the major points of the land management system. If you're rage quitting because of that then this game might be too social for that kind of player.

  • I am not concerned about any of these things, I am more concerned about economy. Players will have to decide numbers / gold spending and this creates some risks. I would not like economy where for 1 hour of grinding I can sustain my character with buffs/food/flasks/potions for a whole week or even few days. I would rather prefer if things are expensive because that creates value in gold and items. For example 1hour of farming would only buy me 5 health potions. Or 1 hour of farming would buy me only 1 flask that gives significant buff to player power.

Things need to be significant in player power in order to create good economy, but again its risky and I can't think of better way to creating economy then putting some vendors that sell these things, players will obviously sell them for cheaper price and that leads to everyone buying from players specifically.

OP, this is who I'd call a Carebear before any karma bombing gatherer by the way. Can't associate with other PvPers or talk to guilds or the people in them in PvP games, so he ascribes sociopathy to all PvPers.

    What's a life skiller?

Looking online in thefreedictionary, it seems similar to a carebear, with the difference that the life skiller does not oppose violence.
    https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/carebear
    https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/life+skiller
I don't know if violence against NPCs is included.
Probably the two terms overlap and is just a matter of preference to use one over the other.

Then I have a question myself too.
Is AoC really intended to separate artisans from combat ready players?
How can one level up artisanship and avoid fighting NPCs?
If such a possibility exists, it shouldn't in my option.

    There is no such possibility.
  • Everyone, I stated clearly that 'we would like to see a good / healthy Life Skill system where we can support the PVE/PVP players to large-scale WARS! We like to coexist and have fun!' This also means that the corruption system should be good, viable, and balanced for all sides. There are many of us who wants to be of help and not be useless. Many players from other MMO games said we are really useless and even goes as far as to say: "get lost care-bear! You are no use!" This needs to change... :(

Second, there is no need to separate artisans from combat. We would like to see a good system that allows us to protect ourselves and support the sidelines and frontline.

If the system is good, as said already... then we will not care if we die and/or lose our items. We just like to have fun like you PVP players do! The Risk VS Reward is very interesting!

In Ashes terms it would be someone heavily into the artisan aspects of the game. Gathering and processing and crafting. It's commonly used in BDO for those who fish or gather or refine goods for hours on end. Sometimes it's almost all they do in the game, but obviously some also like to mix it up.
