Question about node sieges

If i understand it correctly everyone will be able to join in on the attack of a node when it is under siege but only citizens of that node (or allies) have an incentive to defend it.

Can this not potentially lead to 100 vs 1000 player battles?
Or is this the intent because players on the defence have the advantage of a fortres?

how many participents on both sides would be a fair fight for say a metropolis stage node?

We don't know what number of citizens a metro will need to stave off attrition at this time. Since we know they are planning for around 10k concurrency of active players at any one time, there are a max of 5 metros, maybe around 1k for each. Speculation until we see what they have come up with. Citizens of the node are automatically flagged as defenders. Does not mean they have to fight, just that they cannot join in on the attacking side. Since the astronomical projected cost of making the siege declaration for a metro, and the resources that have to be fed into it to declare (equivalent to what it took to level that node to metro is current info), no one is going to be doing it for shits and giggles. It will be a monumental effort on both sides, getting the metro to that point, and getting the resources to siege it. So doubt it is going to be very lopsided unless the games mechanics are broken af.

So if you want to really dig deep into Node Sieges this may help with some of the info you are missing: https://ashes101.com/nodesieges

    As far as your questions

Can this not potentially lead to 100 vs 1000 player battles?

    Yes it can

Or is this the intent because players on the defence have the advantage of a fortres?

The intent is for the allies of the node to defend it against the attackers

how many participents on both sides would be a fair fight for say a metropolis stage node?

There is no such thing as a "fair" fight. There is an equal fight, which the castle sieges are 250 vs 250 right now.

once declared ANYONE can register to be an attacker or a defender of the Node, the only condition is that all citizens of the Nodes are automatically registered as a defender.
Anyone who is a citizen of the Node is automatically registered as a defender in the siege on their home Node. Additionally, any vassal citizens are only eligible to register as defenders, they cannot register to attack. Neither group is required to actively engage in defense on Siege day, but defense is their only option.

Don't ignore the diplomacy that the sieged node will be doing - they might well have other nodes and various guilds who agree (for multiple diplomatic reasons) to help defend.

Translation: solo players who clearly don't understand they are playing a MMO and become mayor will lose their nodes
