Bard magic.

RookkRookk Member, Alpha Two
I know a little bit about what has been said about it but am unsure about what else might have been said and also wanna just throw out a idea about how interesting it could be/work. Personally, I think the way that bard magic should work and would be the coolest is if it worked like tonal magics like the thu' um from the Elder Scrolls and by that I mean the old lore thu' um of the nords before it got stupidly retconned into being the dragon language.

For those who don't know about the lore of tonal magic from TES(The Elder Scrolls), essentially it was the manipulation of the world not through magicka (The TES verion of magical energy) but instead through using sounds to alter the song of the world. The idea of the song of the world ties into one of the interpretations of what reality is in the elder scrolls which is to say, in the dwemers eyes (The deep elfs/dwarves who originated tonal magics major use) the entire world was nothing more than a song being played and everyone and everything was its own note in that song making up the whole and so if you were to insert a new note or tone into that song, you would be altering reality itself into making the note you played real.

As for how this would play out in AoC if it was actually done, it would essentially be cooldown based costless magic that simply has a very long cooldown compared to any other magic though still carrying high level benefits of whatever the spell would do almost like perhaps a bard who tells stories to cast their magic literally alters reality though convincing it that the story they say is true and perhaps that type of bard magic would have a standard magic spell cooldown length but a REALLY long cast time with also a strong effect. Another type like say a bard who uses music perhaps would be more restricted to minor illusions or effects in reality but have a MUCH shorter cooldown and cast time basically trading all the power of the magic for consistant output. Beyond that there could be bards who work like those who possess the thu' um in TES where by simply speaking a word they can force reality itself to change to meet the casters expectations and that would be the SUPER LONG cooldown magic with a strong effect and short cast time.

I know that im just one of many nerds in the sea of nerds waiting for ashes and that my ideas about the game are probably only ever gonna be just that, MY ideas about the game but hey, i at least find it fun to talk about this shit and at least make my thoughts known rather than not engaging and regretting it later so yea. :D

    * great idea for a bard dps version, another cool idea would be like a pied piper cunjuring hoards of rats
    to attack your enemies
When i think Bard i think BUFFS & Debuffs aswell as some healing and dps but utility above all
the beginning of wisdom is to know you know nothing

I’d really like to see Bard magic pull from illusion, charm/mesmerization, abjuration, and maybe divination schools.

especially with my idea from TES, it would be like convincing the world to alter the reality of the mind of your target literally on a fundemental level temporarily altering how they see things going so far beyond normal magic simply interrupting their normal though process!
  • I would like bards to have area of effect around caster buffs similar to Sona buffs from League of Legends. 1st spell could be deals damage to main target via song that makes magical bolt, but also buffs attack damage of all basic attacks for let's say +10 damage, everyone around you gets that buff and you glow shining blue light.
2nd spell could be heal that heals AoE everyone on 5sec CD and gives shield that protects people for 5sec +100 hp heal and shield, around works like magic around you, but glow green light
3rd would be like big slow or root or even charming bolt that CC player for 2sec and slowly makes him to move toward you, like a soothing song that charms enemy mind. All players around you would get movement speed buff or faster global CD recharge and you would glow purple light around you.

These are some ideas similar or even same like Sona's abilities from League of Legends, I just like the idea that only those around you get buffs or enemy debuffs, makes sense since you are playing instruments right?

I assume bard would be CC centric class and not damage class that has same damage to mages, instead they would CC / debuff enemies and buff allies through movement speed, damage bonus, shield/heal, mana regen...etc..

I like the idea of Bards being very heavily focused on AOE effects. Large area slows/burns/buffs (mild but even 5-10% slows adds up if it's affecting 5-10 people in a 30m radius) or just modifying buffs that center around the idea of them being AOE with some sprinkled in like single target DOTs/etc.
