Node Progression Through Sea Content: Some Excitement and Concerns

edited December 2022 in General Discussion
So one of the questions in the recent Dev Update was about whether or not a player could contribute to a nodes progression while focusing entirely on sea/naval content. The answer was yes, that node progression would be contributed to the nearest node.

Questions/Concerns:
-does this mean that coastal nodes will have a bigger advantage due to more content options via the sea?
- Does this mean coastal nodes will have far less of a ZOI footprint on land to compensate for their ocean ZOI? EDIT: Would this affect the number of freeholds a coastal node can have?
-How far does the coastal node ZOI reach out into the oceans?
-Does the open sea "no corruption" mechanic apply in the ocean region of these nodes if the ZOI reaches all the way out into the sea?

The Pros/ What I am Excited about
-If coastal nodes are hyperfocused on sea content as opposed to land, this would create a pivotal choice for players when choosing between Land based or sea based content when deciding on what node to live at.
-Design for coastal nodes to progress primarily through naval content could create a reliance on land node trade and vice versa for land nodes relying on naval nodes. Creating a desire to assist neighboring node progression instead of only competing against them due to being mutually beneficial. There would also need to be the decision of whether to have a stage 6 coastal node, or a stage 6 land node.

I'm sure I'll think of others but I would love to hear everyone else's concerns, speculations, and what they're excited about in regards to this subject.

    Node and ZOI -

Let's say the West Continent, the most South Node, can have a ZOI and connect to the East Continent, most Northern Node. This was displayed on a live stream awhile back.

Can you link that livestream? I'd like to take a look at that.

My assumption is that nodes get experience only if the player gets experience too.
Does the open world pvp bring experience? Bounty hunters might get some. Maybe they can hunt down a corrupted player who run into the deep ocean and the experience will go to the closest node.

1st - Probaly not since the distance between content would be greater in the ocean (ocean cant realy have thing every 10 seconds away where land can so the content in ocean is probaly 5 times or so further away on land which means ocean influence can be 5 times larger than zone of influence over land and still be the same content wise

2nd - Yes and No, they extend the same distance into the land as other land POI but further in ocean side since above statement, so yeah one directly on coast would have half the land (assuming coast is a straight line) but it Zone of influence would be 5 times larger on the other side of the node over the ocean but still have same amount of content just spread out further than a land side

Edit part - You will probaly see island freeholds aswell where it like just a small island that doesnt show on the map with a freehold on and dock kinda thing so it could still have same amount of freehold spots but some will be on small islands off the shore somewhere, running an inn on a small island would be kinda funny for a pirate pit stop (maybe have the safe zone of these freehold extend a little into the water so people can pull boats up without being ganked by people on the land rushing out to the boat as it pulls in)

3rd- i would assume it depends on content density if oceans have 20% the content in a 1km area squared for example one would assume the ocean ZOI would be 5 time larger than the land portion to accommodate the difference in content. This may also not be the case though if Nodes can effect pvp in the ZOI since it could take away the open ocean purple effect but then again the force combatant might override these policies if there are any

4th, i would assume the no corruption would overide anything the node can do in its ZOI when u hit whats considered open ocean
