Spending EM points on instore items

does intrepid have any plans to make store items purchasable with EM points while we wait for the game to release?

    You mean the real-money currency, called Embers? Those are for when the ingame cash shop opens at launch, as far as I'm aware.

    As @Halae said, Embers are only redeemable after launch.

    I don’t think Intrepid has interest in changing that rule.

    Being able to spend them now would not only cannibalize revenues from the pre-order packs … it would also require time to set up the online infrastructure (to deal with Embers tracking) earlier than planned.

    Remember, the game is purported to have in-game achievable cosmetics that are on par (or better) than what’s currently displayed in the pre-order packs.
