Freehold Boundaries, thinking OUTSIDE the box

Terrain is almost never these nice rectangular portions of land... so lets embrace the weird and funky curves of nature and enable us define our freehold boundaries through laying claim markers or stakes.
I believe the following graphics illustrates my point.

What we need to break free from:

What we could have:

As long as the total contiguous area isn't greater than a set threshold for that claim type, all should be fine right?

Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

I'd love to be like Ratty from Wind in the Willows and have my home on the riverbank :)

Defining Freehold Boundaries needs to be done in advance by the dev team, due to problems with interaction with other objects, for example when a node increases in level.

As long as they're doing the shaping, I'm good with it. But I don't think it's something that we should be able to do ourselves.

    It's simple.
The devs can make a terrain mask where it's safe to place a freehold, and anywhere outside that mask is reserved for towns/roads/poi/nodes/dungeons/events.
Anywhere inside that Freehold Terrain Mask is our playground.
