An Idea with Spells

I think the higher you level your spells the animation should change. for example in a certain game if you cast a rank 1 frostbolt it looks exactly the same as a max rank level 60 frostbolt. I thought it could be cool if rank 1 frostbolt animation could be like throwing an icicle and max rank could be like throwing a full ball of ice. If Ashes of Creation could do something like this it will definitely add to that feeling of knowing you are currently weak but can feel yourself getting stronger and it would be exciting to see how your spells evolve over time. Thoughts?

Making 6 animations with 6 particle effects and 6 sound effects would quadruple the amount of work required by the art team. Id prefer the game release sometime this decade.

maybe just change the dominant color of the spell to differentiate levels
  • I like the idea of enhanced visuals for the more powerful spell versions. But I also would like the game visuals to stay simple. Imagine 40 players all casting their spells.

It's a good idea but it looks so insignificant. Why not for a patch in 2027...

I don't think this kind of thing is insignificant.
It adds to the overall immersion and feeling of power progression.
Also, it doesn't need to be multiple assets for a single spell, it could start with with color shifts and size scaling.
Further down the line replace certain stages of spells and skills with unique assets where it makes sense.

Why would they patch the game pre-release?

I think you should call your mother and talk to her about what is important in her life.

To some extent that will exist I'm sure as you level up the skills based on the points you put in and they get augmented with different effects and/or the functionality changes slightly. It is something I'm looking forward to personality with the customization of kits.

She's off with friends of hers on a scrapbooking weekend (read; an excuse to drink too much wine).

    Thanks for your concern though.

I also think it's not insignificant and I agree with OP. But now, it looks like an insignificant thing because it is a detail. So why not for a patch later, the make the release of alpha 2 closer.

this slightly off topic but, i do hope they have something like this with spell upgrades altering the way they look..

but i also hope they attach quests to getting spell/skills and maybe another quest to upgrade them also. never been a fan of "oh you leveled here are some spells" without there being some type of quest or book read to learn said spell..
