What are some examples of wave-based events?

Hey all!

With the live stream happening tomorrow, I can't help but wonder what kinds of things they are planning to talk about!

I know of wave-based games (I think 7 Days to Die is an example, and a few from our streams have mentioned rift), but I haven't experienced it firsthand.

What are some of your favorite wave-based gameplay examples?

I also can't help but wonder if the monster coin will be wave-based haha.

When I think of "wave-based" gameplay, I think of Horde mode in Gears of War or CoD Zombies (both are practically the same). You are confined to a small or medium sized map and must survive increasingly difficult waves until you defeat a max-difficulty wave or all your party members die.

I also think of Rift events, where randomly on the map a rift event will start and waves of enemies will spawn. Sometimes if players didnt defeat these waves, the enemy NPCs will takeover a questing hub and you will have to defeat them all before the friendly NPCs respawn.

That is actually quite fun sounding! But I can see it being monotonous over time if it happens too frequently. I'm not as big of a fan of this game mechanic, but I am interested in seeing how Intrepid goes about making it fun and also enjoyable in the long term
