Aliens

How do you feel about aliens coming to Verra in a future expansion? Not the Ancients, but intelligent life from other planets in different solar systems or even from different galaxies on the material plane.

Premise and Assumptions

Verra exists on the material plane. There is also the celestial plane, the etheral plane and the void. We know constellations exist, and we can see the night sky full of stars, so my assumption is that Verra is in a solar system in a galaxy on the material plane.

We also know the Ancients came to Verra in Harbingers, which are comet-like celestial bodies, so I don't think it's reasonable to assume that the sky is a dome shape and that the sun, moon, and stars are embedded into the dome, like ancient cultures once thought on earth. (Well, in the game it kinda is, but you know what I mean!)

This leads to a another reasonable assumption that we could have more solar systems able to hold life in the galaxy, and even more galaxies with billions more solar systems.

Speculation

If other galaxies exist, are we sure that the 10 gods in the current Pantheon are the only ones in the universe? The universe seems like a big place for only 10 gods to rule, especially with three of them having been fired for bad behaviour.

What if other galaxies, or even just other solar systems in the galaxy Verra is in, have their own pantheon and divine races?

With divine portals, any sort of galactic travel is possible, and I think it could be a great way to bring new life to the game down the line, once the more Verran-centric storyline has been explored in the first expansions.

For example, what if the cool, evil gods won the power-struggle in that other place, and the boring, good gods were banished? That opens the game up to entirely new story-lines.

Anyway, it's not something I want to see anytime soon, but it's an idea for the future. Lemme know what you all think

EDIT: Just so we are on the same page, Aliens in this context is like the Eredar and the Orcs and Ogres in WoW, that all came from a different worlds (Argus and Draenor). It's not about little green men in flying saucers with lasers like in Attack from Mars.

Maybe waaaaay down the line. I'd prefer if we explored all the planes first and then we could start thinking about "what else is out there?"

well, we are kind of the aliens.

we went to another world through a portal, which makes us the aliens. then the offsprings of our offsprings of our offsprings, which were born on that other, planet went back to Verra, making us aliens again.
  • If there are only 10 Gods, I can come up with an explanation.

The problem with the aliens is that usually makes developers to come up with completely new species, to suggest that they are alien compared to indigenous life.
I think the developers have already a pressure to create the life on Verra, different from the Earth one.
To me it would be enough if new content is added with the similar lore and style.
And if the history and politics between the 10 Gods evolves.

But I cannot really give a good answer now. Ask me again after I see the alpha

Yeah I thought of that, but as the divine species I think we can be considered native to the planet, even if most had to leave and those that stayed became the Tulnar.

Yes, it would be like déjà-vu all over again for us Tulnar.
Be bold. Be brave. Roll a Tulnar !

No thank you to Aliens, this would imply advanced technologies which are outside of the pure fantasy realm. If you are just referring to another race crossing over from somewhere with the same primitive technical level that already exists on Verra then adding to our choices would be great.

EQ/EQ2 probably had an alien as one of the gods.

In EQ2 this gods temple was a circular building that was just ever so slightly hovering.

The reason I say it was probably an alien is because it was never confirmed, and it was unclear if the powers from this God (both in terms of lore and function) were divine or advanced technology. It was just kind of put in to the game, and left up to players to speculate.

i dont know, xenomorphs and face huggers could be really cool... (alien franchise joke)

Now I am pondering about mind flayers haha.

In relations to the galaxy comment... Verra is just one part of the solar system let alone other celestial bodies like moons which technically are planets and some potentially habitable. Galaxies can hold many solar systems so dont necessarily need to jump galaxies when solar systems would be more practical first haha

I enjoy One Piece so for expansions I would still be in favour a sky expansion. I'll add spoiler below so people who are new to One Piece wont get the show, anime, manga ruined.
islands were mysteriously raised to the sky and kept suspended via a special cloud combination with other things through volcanic activity. The ocean in the sky is essentially clouds while the land is still terrestrial based. There is various ways to get up there but no different than one would want to travel below the surface for underground zones. Pathing and mysterious routes to a brand new seas of clouds. In the manga they ascended via a knock up stream which is a super geyser in the ocean but there is other paths via rainbow bridge/bifrost bridge if you want to get all Yggdrasil on it. It was mentioned in the manga but shown with the addition of other white seas (cloud oceans) and methods to get to them. And yes, if you swam down through the clouds you would no longer be suspended and fall to the planets surface.

But yeah, other than that, lots of options for access to different lands or even multi-tiered elevational expansion potential with the original world map. It's a fantasy world so who knows. I definitely like the idea of keeping it more multi-tiered.

Eh, could totally have fantasy magic solution for interstellar travel.
Could even have the rainbow bridge style solution the Asgardians used in marvel universe to travel the nine realms.

*poof* there is a portal, and suddenly there are enemies invading

But truly, what makes "Aliens" different than "monsters" when it comes to us players fighting things, its only the lore of the backstory reason why they are wanting to move in on our land.

well, the ancients (the primary antagonists) are already aliens...

Well, in the game there is a large moon in the sky that is half destroyed, which screams, explore me.

Everybody seems to agree... as long as spaceships and lasers aren't involved, bring on the "aliens"....

I dunno, I think the Tulnar War Boyz would do great in space, going all dakka dakka dakka on some aliens.

  • as long as there is some cliche person with a backwoods accent talking about flying saucers and little green men.. lol
Gazoo worked for the flintstones

Nah, similar reasoning to why I wouldn't want guns, etc. It just doesn't fit into a High Fantasy setting. Aliens are more Sci-Fi than High Fantasy.

I think maybe the better question is how much life already existed on Sanctus when the Verra refugees arrived and... how many indigenous Sanctus lifeforms will we be bringing with us to Verra.

Sanctus was created specifically for the purpose of hiding the divine races away. As in, the goddess of creation made the world up on the spot and cut it off from the essence to hide from the ancients/others. Obviously she could have made a full flora and fauna on Sanctus as well, but I would guess it would be somewhat limited compared to a world where evolution had had millions of years of trial and error too, and I'd think whatever she made would be similar to what was on Verra.

  • @Nerror now now lets not be hasty. maybe some divine races have been around for thousands of year longer in galaxies far, far away...

but on a serious note, yeah there is always the chance for god/cosmic lore to expand the world building scope.
  • But the Sun emits light because fusion, isn't it?
And water is made from oxygen and hydrogen.
If a mage casts chain lightning into salty water, maybe he gets some hydrogen out of it...
