Name of your character

Will it be possible to have the same name as another player? Some mmos havent figured out binding names to a users account rather than a server is a good thing to do. And will we be able to have surnames?

As far as I am aware each character on a server needs to have a unique name.

Characters will have a first-name and an optional surname (last name).[10]

Character names are unique per server.[11]
Character name changes will be possible during server merges.[11]

There is a minimum length of three for a character name.[12]
Special characters, including apostrophes and hyphens, are currently not allowed in character names.[13]

In other Words : in Ashes of Creation WILL BE possible - what wasn't possible in for Example World of Warcraft since now nearly Twenty Years.

Family Names.
Families.

You can for example make :

- Guybrush Threepwood
and
- Elaine Threepwood


It is so very simple and nothing really big if one thinks about it. Yet it is a Form of Freedom that not even WoW gave it's Players since Years over Years over Years. I like it.

I am aware.

Is Anyone knowledgeable about if " Extra-Signs " will be allowed ? Like an " î " - instead of an " i " ?

Or an " ô " instead of an " o " ?


Because when i remember - "once AGAIN" -> World of Warcraft, the Amount of People i saw with similar to LITERALLY the same Names : and then in some to many Cases the Names were only different because of the Extra-Signs they used in Combination with the Names,

i sometimes saw Three or "FOUR" clearly different People -> with different Races and Classes ingame,

running around : while actively always having the same Name. It was silly and ridiculous. 😅



Name Reservation and so on is neat,

but it will be quite the Limiter of that making a Difference, when People who haven't had the Privilege of Name Reservation, just put an Extra-Sign into one or several Letters of the Name : and then have the same Name again. 😅
