Editing my own threads and comments don't get approved?

Do you have to manually approve every edit of people's threads and comments?
I wrote quite a bit in the last thread I wanted to release and had to edit it once or twice after that.
The first draft can be released without approval it seems but one edit without spamming traffic by constantly editing it has to be approved manually?!
Another comment and the mentioned thread never appeared after that and this is concerning for me because I don't know when and if they appear now and I don't want to waste my time writing those if it isn't a reliable system...
