Please forgive my ignorance, but as someone who has not followed this game at all, what is it?

The website doesn't really seem to explain anything. Are there classes? Monthly fee? PVP? PVE? Crafting?

Where is the best place to find info on what the game is or consists of? Watching random people on youtube?

I see I can preorder it, but I don't fully know what the actual game is.

We're hoping for a 2025 or 2026 release - but it's worth the wait, even if it ends up taking longer. Total passion-project, rather than a AAA-studio development trying to make a deadline.

Yes there are classes. Yes there will be a subscription fee (no box cost tho). The game will include both PvE and PvP as it is a PvX game. And there will be loads of crafting.

The wiki is a great place to read up on the game (which Tyranthraxus linked to above), but if you prefer videos then I'd recommend Narc on YouTube. His channel have a lot of good overviews regarding Ashes of Creation!

The Ashes of Creation Wiki is the the broadest and officially endorsed information source by Intrepid. Aside from that the primary source of information would be the monthly livestreams with development updates, Q&As, as well as the Discord and interviews Steven Sharif does with various Youtubers.

As for your questions (in short):

• yes there are 8 base classes that can be modified later in the game
• There is a monthly fee of 15$ after launch
• This game will be PvX - so at all times there is a chance of both happening and in the game loop, one cannot fully function without the other long term. PvP basically creates need for PvE and PvE creates more incentives for PvP
• There will be gathering, processing and crafting jobs, but you cannot master all jobs with one character
