3rd Person Camera View Distance

Although not quite a serious issue personally, but I've noticed over the last couple dev streams during the showcase the camera distance feels quite far. I know you can zoom in to the character, but for some reason watching the camera distance feels dissociating from the character. When playing an MMORPG I want to feel like I am the character rather than controlling the character.

Yes, you can control your zoom. That's it, that's the comment.

    We noticed this too.
Usually the farther you can scroll back, the better.
Yet in the latest video it started a discussion in our guild how the game started to look "odd" and almost removed the world into a "flat"offering at a certain point.

I would like to see future livestream being more close up 3rd person view. In alot of the recent livestreams the 3rd person view have had the camera so far out from above it starts to look like LostArk and flat looking.

    Love this 3rd person view:

Personally dislike this 3rd person view:

Just adjust the zoom. There will likely be adjustments you can do in the ui that will set max distance you can zoom out. Some want the further out distance to more easily see the battle field and know who to target.

Would it be fine if they just released a video showing off closeup gameplay?

Steven really likes to zoom out a lot.

In A1 we could also zoom out far, but it actually hurt the immersion and experience of the game to do so. You completely missed out on all the pretty details the game had back then as well, and you felt more disconnected from the world in some sense.

I doubt this will change much, but I really think Intrepid is making a mistake here. Yeah, lots people will zoom out to the max, because not doing so can put them at a disadvantage in PvP for example, but it doesn't actually make for better gameplay. It's killing a lot of the beauty/coolness/immersion for the sake of potentially more situational awareness, and long-term I don't think that's a worthwhile trade-off for the game.

In A1 I forced myself to play much more zoomed in compared to max distance, even though I knew it would put me at a slight disadvantage, and the game experience became much better.

Immersion vs Unrealism and so on strikes again. :D

It was Advantages when You can "watch from above" over the Shoulder of your Character, like the higher Mind of his, that You are.

Of Course the only truly realistic Sight would be Ego-Perspective, but that would take so much juicy and flashy Animation to adore away. ;)

I imagine that this " zooming Out " has it's greatest Uses in Mass Battles. Everything like in the last Caravan Presentation or above. Like : You couldn't see jack if you would be caught in a huge Mass Brawl and would have only Ego Perspective. :D

Well put. Your comment deserves it's own thread. I agree very much with this.

Max zoomed out distance is the most advantageous, but I agree that there should be a sane limit so that your own character is "always there", properly visible in all their detail. Otherwise you're just clicking some far away thingies. New World had a good zoom out limit IMHO.
