My experience with cosmetics and monetization

Hi everyone, coming from a different genre of MMO I have some Insights to share. I would like to see what people think and if it could fit into this game.

As Asmongold says, pay to win or pay for convenience ruins an MMO. Having played Hypixels skyblock MMO for several years now I think it has some extremely unique and innovative systems that would fit well into this game.

The cosmetic system in Hypixel SB focuses on particle effects and skins only for items that are already highly unique and couldn't be confused for another. This was so you could recognize the armour type by looks. Meaning no transmogrification. This makes owning a set of armour or weapon extremely rewarding as people will instantly recognize what you have and it gives a far greater sense of accomplishment compared to some dude buying a $20 skin that they didn't work for.

On top of that there are also exotics which allow you to customise armour using special dies dropped from bosses with chances in the millions. So the only real way to get that is to buy it for a lot of money. You rarely see them, it's not to say that their cost is prohibitive, there is just better stuff to spend your money on.

Personally in AOC I would hope to see that they do not go down the route of selling cosmetics and instead go with the subscription model that has worked so successfully for WOW in the beginning.

Yeah, it's going to be a bit of both. As long as the quantity and quality of shop sets don't outstripe the in-game sets, then we'll be fine.

Yoooo, my hype meter is going up even more. I never experienced wow in my childhood, so this is a second opportunity to play a meaningful relevant MMO not ruined by monetisation.

Rejoice! We will be living in the cosmetic skin shop utopia friend. Good to have you aboard!

I hope you will be right.
And despite that it would piss People off - > i sincerely hope People will get the Chance of getting something from the Shop that m~iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight have been available like +7 Years before Release or so,

like for example an "Decaying Thrall"-Battlepet, or a certain kind of Building for Freeholds, or a certain kind of Ship Model and/or Skin and so on,

because honestly 0,0000000015% of all Players will have these, if they don't make it available after Release. I am not kidding. :D I can see this coming from Ten Miles away. :D
