Gameplay idea - give us a slider on our abilities that trades dmg for CD/mana

Gameplay idea - give us a slider on some of our abilities that trades off ability stats for cooldown/mana cost
Example:
Ability - Fireball - 500 damage, 100 mana, 10 second cd (middle of the slider)
rightmost- 2,000 dmg, 500 mana, 50 second cd,
leftmost - 250 dmg, 50 mana, 6 second cd
Thoughts? Obviously the above is in no way balance and just a representation of an idea

The amount of time people spend fine tuning these things to have anything close to a positive experience, the very idea of giving players control of it in a PvP Fantasy MMORPG leaves me without words.
Sounds like Chaos to me
Seriously though, just that kind of control alone would make the variability between any build potentially quite large!
I feel like this can be tuned in PvP as well, there's always gonna be that meta build people use so let's say you know using this skill with this much power kills most of these meta builds when they're at 25% HP. You can have a second hotkey that sacrifices power for cast time to pick off someone trying to break away with low HP
There is already abilities that does that, like the ranger one. Where you spread out your dmg over a cone area, if you keep charging, it becomes a line in the end, with all dmg in that one line. So there is already something like this.
Also, in pvp, you would always use the top damage to burn someone. In a 20v20 for example, Everyone would just melt each other and you would have the fight be over in seconds with only a few players alive.
The ranger ability in game makes sense because you choose more damage for a smaller area vs less damage for an aoe. This could work with spells like a thunderstorm and a blizzard of hail turning into a glacier that falls.
