Not the first thread like this, won't be the last.
  • I know it's pretty standard, but I absolutely loved the ranger's cloak ability, and how it was showcased being used for a textbook ambush in the caravan PvP stream. That's just awesome - plus the fact that rangers and rogues are the two fastest classes, they can actually scout ahead for caravans in a meaningful way. That's peak class fantasy fulfilment right there. Also the chameleon-like visual effect was extremely cool.
  • This hasn't really been showcased properly just yet, but the dominant race affecting the appearance of nodes is such a cool concept. I've spent hours just scrolling through the wiki staring at the different architecture styles.
  • The character creator looks awesome. The fact that they were able to recreate Asmon so accurately was both impressive and hilarious. I can't wait to get my hands on it.
  • Can't overstate how amazing the sound design is, especially on the combat abilities. Actual ear candy. I sometimes just go back and listen to old streams for the SFX alone.
  • Tanks being able to spawn walls and direct the flow of battle like we saw in the recent node war stream is also peak class fantasy.
  • Flying mounts being extremely rare and limited mostly to leaders is brilliant. Not only does it make seeing one on the battlefield a memorable experience for casual players, it also lets the leaders in question survey the battle and call shots from a better vantage point. Just all around 10/10 design on that.

For me its the Node War preview. Huge DAoC and ESO PvPer. I played more time in both of them, than I want to admit. I love PvE but large scale PvP is what I live for in MMOs. I loved how the Node War made the players need to also compete with PvE events in the middle of the war. This breaks things up and keeps you engaged in the event. Also makes it so that tactics can win over greater numbers.

    I agree!

I like the fact that the PvPers will have to defend as well as attack. If PvP is just about attacking and no one has any incentive to defend, the PvEers have no protection and no one will build anything because it will just be torn down.

If you need PvE and defence to "Win", then tactics become far more nuanced.

I love that too! It's what makes the game feel PvX, not just PvP. I also like it makes node wars feel more like a war than just a battle.

Mainly the ability for the world to drastically change based on the actions of the players, even altering what PvE content and story arcs are available to play through. Most MMOs feel too static and it really takes me out of the experience.

I love everything I have seen about this game but hesitate slightly (it's me, not them :) ). I have run the full range of PVE (hardcore to casual) and very little PVP. I want to love this game, but I am worried I will struggle with the PVP aspects, both mechanically and in enjoyment. I could start hitting PVP hard in FF14 and WoW, but I am unsure how much that will prepare me for AoC PVP.
