Would like more 'grit' in the game.

I would like to see more grit in the game.
By this I mean, more violence.

Anyone remembering Age of Conan would know what I mean.
The finishing moves when you struck a crit in Age of Conan was always extremely satisfying.
In both PvP and PvE.
Every class had their own 'finishing moves'.
It was very unique to the game (I am not saying it's never been done before, but it was very unique in an MMO setting).

All MMO's have the same lack of grittiness. Incredibly boring.

Let's see more violence in this game... it needs it... as does the entire MMO genre.
And I'm not talking about blood splatter and gore... that's default as far as I'm concerned.
I'm talking specifically about whenever a crit is landed, we are given a brief cutscene of decapitation; amputation; impalement... whatever... an overall violent death of our opponent (I dunno... go check out what Age of Conan did with their finishing moves and get some inspiration).

BRING IT.
There's devils on each side of you,
With bottles in their hands
You need one more drop of poison
And you'll dream of foreign lands

i feel their art direction is not going this way tbh.

    Username checks out lol

I actually wouldn't mind seeing abilities like Execute trigger a short pre-animated takedown, just for the cool factor. Blood splatters are already a thing, though I doubt we'll be seeing any dismemberment. Most MMOs tend to go for ~pegi-16 or T in order to catch the widest possible audience, and from what we've seen so far it seems Ashes is going in that direction too.

Wouldn't mind finishing moves. Probably doesn't need to be on-par with Kill Bill-style blood gushing from a severed arm, but it's sometimes cool to see some fancy finishing moves.

i dont want a cutscene every time I'm doing mass pvp and get a kill. that can get me killed. i need to be moving around constantly.

    for a 1v1 arena, sure.
  • It wouldnt vibe with AoC, AoC it's a game about unicorns farting rainbows

So much could be done, but I don't think we will get anything
PvE means: A handful of coins and a bag of boredom.

Cutscenes - in dynamic fast paced PvP situations?
Blood and gore as a default - for a game where the core player base is already rather small compared to the whole market?

No, this is a nothing burger with no benefits to this game.
The answer is probably >>> HERE <<<

Just my two cents. The ideas posted here, is not the game I backed. Watching the videos from the Kick Starter you did not see blood or gore. So please no!

i sorta like this idea, but cutscenes wont work in a complex pvp fight. will they?

As long as I do not get locked into an animation without I-frames, that sounds interesting.

I'm not a fan. I'd rather the game look beautiful than gory.

TBH i never understood why people like looking at really ugly games with blood and gore and gratuitous violence and all that stuff. Maybe its the "cool" factor?

I'm just a simple guy, but "pretty and beautiful" = "good" and "ugly and gory" = "bad" aesthetically... By definition.

I honestly can't stand modern TV shows/movies/games that are mostly about the shock effect of seeing people getting brutally beaten, dismembered and mutilated. Pass.

" and flyin' Dildo Fairies ! " - probably William Butcher. (lol)

    Hands down regarding the Violence,
everything plus/above/more than a Player dying on - well - Death - and turning into a small pile of Ash until Revival or Respawn,

would add EXTRA DATA BURDEN, Bandwidth - and hence, Frames to the Game, right ?

It would be "more" to animate. More that could significantly slow the Game down in a huge Mass Battle.

And G~oooods i love me some epic Mass Battles.

Make it a toggle. I love Age of Conan but the blood and puss spraying everywhere is not really enjoyable. It makes me want breaks from the game.

Edit: And to second others here, no cutscenes. Things need to keep moving.

Think you are asking for a different the game. Steven showed us the art style of the game at the kick starter. That's part of the vision that had people like me back Ashes. Sure let's just tic off all the people that's supported this game for 7 years.

You definitely never played Conan. That's not what was on display during any of this game's coverage. I've been here for over 7 years, so I can say at least one person isn't furious about my previous post.

Think Mortal Kombat, that would be another game resembling the fatalities the OP is referring to. No thanks.

I'd rather the art team spend their resources elsewhere. It would likely please a minority of players compared to what we have already, and the world still needs a lot more support on the art front to reach the level of detail Intrepid seems to want for every biome.
Grilled cheese always tastes better when you eat it together!
