What if Bards were like...

So how many of you are familiar with Guild Wars (1) Mesmers? Using illusions to attack your mind directly and supporting the party with mana regen stolen from the enemies.
What if Bards were an 'anti-caster' caster class? Effective with skills that might drain or even hamper mana regen while increasing the party's. Hitting enemies with nasty DOTs and debuffs while buffing the party.
For R,P,S they should be a good counter to clerics, mages, and summoners (and maybe themselves), while being quite vulnerable to the melee and ranged classes
Thoughts? Ideas of tour own?

Sounds great. The Mesmer aesthetic doesn't really fit but the abilities sound good.
It could easily become OP and nearly required though. If you are able to essentially shut down the opposing group while giving limitless mana to yours the group who brings a Bard wins.
I see them as more of a GW1 Paragon: Shouts and Chants in two skill trees, then another skill tree for Damage skills.
It should probably have some, of course, but I'd like to see the CC/Debuffs/etc more on the Rogue.
Maybe make that one of the flavours like Bard/Mage.
More like an evil bard. Could be some of what a subclass could be, maybe. But in general, I would not like bard to be that way.
What changes would you all make to my idea?
What are some ideas of your own?
I see that a different flavor of mage, not a bard
