Removing myself from my Referrer

DarkwaterDarkwater Member, Alpha Two
I understand that is it not possible to retroactively link myself to someone's referral. That's not what I'm asking about. I am looking to remove myself from the referral that I created my account with long ago. I haven't wanted to support this person any longer for a while now and I had remembered recently that I am still referred by them. I know that they get a percentage of any real money purchases of in-game store currency I buy down the road, forever. I don't want this going to them.

I know this is not something that is currently a thing because I put in a ticket to support asking if it was. I was directed here to the forums to make a suggestion post. I am suggesting we be allowed to remove ourselves from our referrer in such cases, please.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say.

    Probably not going to happen.

The only way currently is to make a new account. If you haven't spent anything, then stop using your current account and create a new one with a new email. If you have already spent money, then they will get their referral percentage around 30 days after the game has its live launch.

Yes. I am aware of this route and the fact they have already made some percentage. I'm asking for this for the sake of future purchases WITHOUT having to make a whole new account. This is why I'm making the suggestion in the first place and why I inquired about it in a support ticket first lol.

Pretty sure they have not made a cent off you yet until you start buying items in game. Which isn't till game releases.

If you want to spite them just buy a new alpha key and use that new account and let your old one die.

If he has bought a preorder package, say one of the ones previously that had cosmetics, testing access, and such, then they will get that percentage after the game releases. Plenty of people have money "banked" with Intrepid that will be paid out after the live launch and the required time has passed. (think last it was 30 days after a purchase, might be 90 now with the change in return policy) And of course, anything spent in the way of sub, or cosmetic store purchases after live launch. Doubt Intrepid is going to make a whole new change to their referral system to allow people to remove themselves. Sure, you can ask. Just don't be surprised when they tell you no.

'Just buy a new a new alpha key.' What? No. I'm not made of money, nor am I trying to find work arounds like remaking my account. I have alpha2 access, and I have the account name I want. This whole thread isn't me trying to ask for advice, it's about whether or not Intrepid will consider this option.

I too doubt they will make such a change to their referral system, nor will I be surprised if they say no. That being said, if they did allow it, it would technically be less money they'd have to pay out and thus more kept in their pocket. So who knows. Just figured I'd ask because I don't want to give my referrer my support if I can help it just because I clicked a link like 6 years ago or however long ago it was.

Yes, thus opening them up to lawsuits from those exact same people who had that money coming from your referral. While your single 15% of a package would be a pittance and not worth it for whoever you linked from to sue Intrepid, someone like TheLazyPeon (just one example) who has 100s of thousands of referrals, and even more possible payouts coming from them, would most definitely be retaining a lawyer if there was some arbitrary decision to the system that "damaged" (often the threshold to file) them.

In situations like this, I wish support would just be empowered to act swiftly and decisively. This happens like twice a year. It should be possible to tell someone to delete a database entry, as long as you've proven your identity.
The only one who can validate you for all the posts you didn't write is you.
