Cosmetics

Hello everyone,

Last weekend, I had a discussion with some people on a private Discord server about Ashes.
Eventually, we started talking about in-game cosmetics. I mentioned that I hadn't bought any cosmetics because I remembered the developers saying that Kickstarter backers would have a separate shop after the game's release, where we could buy cosmetics individually.

However, it seems I misunderstood.
My friends said that the developers actually said that Kickstarter backers could buy the cosmetics separately in the pre-order packs that occurred from Dec. 2017 - Jan- 2024.

I'm not a completionist, but seeing all those pets, costumes, and mounts that I wanted but didn't buy at the time due to my misunderstanding makes me a bit sad, especially since I know I'll be playing this game with my friends for a long time.

After reading more about this on the wiki and the forum, I now understand that those cosmetics won't be coming back.

Is that set in stone, or is there any chance those cosmetics might return to the shop in some form before the game officially launches?
We haven't received any updates on the shop since January 2024.

Thanks for listening, and for those who have access to Alpha 2, have fun! <3

P.S.: I'm sadge that I won't have a Rootling or a Troll of Joyous.

An important thing to remember is that the cosmetics that were used as part of the different pre-order packs, pets and mounts included, are also going to be used in pieces for different parts of the game, even if they don't look exactly the same. With that in mind, it's not impossible to expect that you'll be able to earn, for example, the Sabletooth cub from the October 2020 set like I have. The big trick is that it'll likely look different, having a different texture or whatnot.

So I'm sorry to say, yes, you missed out, and it's very unlikely you'll get a chance to get them again. You may be able to get replacements for them ingame, or find cosmetics that have similar aspects to them, but I'm afraid you're out of luck for the actual cosmetics.

I sure hope they don't come back, they were sold with the promise that they were exclusive and only available for a limited time.

This also depends on your Kickstarter contribution; If you did the FULL package (I think it was $750), then you got a lifetime sub, and any of all of the would-be cosmetic packages.

As far as statements from Intrepid go, it is VERY unlikely that any of the cosmetics from the package sales ever return. However I heard Steven and Margaret discuss that at least in case of mounts, animal husbandry would allow to "replicate" a lot (in some cases possibly all) visual traits of the mounts. And lastly, Steven said they are aiming for "the best" cosmetics to be accessible through ingame activity only, ofc that is a matter of taste but still he said it. So I guess not looking at the missed cosmetics is the only thing we can do here to limit regrets.
The answer is probably >>> HERE <<<

Ask yourself honestly, what would you rather have of these two options.

First, the cosmetic come back up for sale, and Intrepid loses any faith players may have had in them.

Second, the cosmetics do not come back up, and players maintain their faith that Intrepid will stick to what they have said, as best they can.

Because that is what you are asking if Intrepid will do - go back on what they specifically said.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to Animal Husbandry for that. The things it can give you are Mounts, Beasts of Burden (mules), Pets (sacrifice a bit of your stats to have a pet rocking around doing actual combatant stuff), and Livestock (as gathering resource nodes for things like meat, wool, milk, eggs, etc.). Personally, I'm planning on specializing in livestock since relatively few people are going to want to do that, so niche market.

Anyways, yeah, if you want mounts and pets you didn't get access to, it's probably best to pick up Animal Husbandry to work out the genetics and traits you need to match the cosmetic demands you're looking for.

If they put my exclusive kickstarter cosmetics in the shop after launch I will ask for a full refund and then continue to enjoy the game.
