Class options 8-)

We have many options on how our chars will work. So many it can lead to some play styles that we can get some real out of the box thinking.
We have all the stuff we have talked about. Augments, skill trees, Secondary class options, Religion and much more.
What I am excited about is the option to pick any weapon but also any armor type. This was also in ESO and you found some very unique builds. Mages that were main tank for instances. In Ashes this means for a class like the Bard, you can have them dressed and spec-ed to be front line battle, to keep our melee fighters looked after ready to be in the thick of things or a Bard dressed for ranged fighting, keeping the Casters and Archers protected and mobile fighting. Or a real Battlemage, thats also spec-ed into AoE and heavy armor with a 2H weapon or sword and shield.
Are there any classes/weapon/armor builds you are thinking of trying?

I've probably played too many games with this level of customization already.
Or more likely the Shadow Disciple style is just common enough that lots of games make sure I have access to it.
I'm really happy for all the people for whom this is their first experience with high flexibility, though, it's definitely a pain to be class/gender/race/role locked for an entire MMO.
EDIT: I'm really interested in seeing what dual wielding Axe Templars will be like, though, despite having no intention to explore or play this myself.
I also will try out Fighter either dual wield or two handed. Not sure which secondary or augments to go with that yet.
So far those are the two I know for sure that I will go to. My third choice will be some kind of necro rouge or rouge mage.. idk
if i don't like it, i'll tank/bard instead. can't remember what they say that's called. and basically just be the team's meatshield as usual bahahaha
Argent
Fighter: heavy armor, big 2 hander
Cleric: heavy armor, big melee weapons, staffs, wands and or a shield
Summoner: same as cleric
Mage: staff high offense items
Bard: heavy armor and shield
Ranger: ranged weapons high offense items
Rogue: big 2 hander high offense items
I have to admit (wow paladin healer spec 10 years myself) a Cleric slash heavy armor could be a fun frount line class. Cleric that gets down and dirty. Either keeping the front line alive or being the focus of battle and having everyone try and kill you and you just not going down. That sounds like something I would like to play.
Going back to AD&D days Cleric has always been my favorite class. Even early computer games did the Cleric righteous.
It wasn't until perhaps WoW with their Paladin and the crazy early MMO need for "balance" that a truly good cleric a la AD&D has existed. MMO's "balance" needs and rock paper scissors has pushed the Cleric into being Priest heal bots you see today. The boring repetitive stand in the back line wearing your robes, target friend, mash button.
I don't expect Ashes to be much different. But we shall see... I have some hope in this game and the developers vision. If the Cleric I dream about is not obtainable I have many other ways to play in another archetype.
It was WoW vanilla that actually turned me into a Paladin. And while fun and powerful. I ended up being a tank in almost every game from there on out. So crossing my fingers for some true Cleric love here in Ashes
Great question btw!
I want to try out the Ranger Archetype at least once i think,
plus Rogue as well - and of Course Summoner as well after that.
I want to play at least one later Summoner as a Necromancer, but i don't know yet if i want to play/test the Rogue and Ranger as pure Archetypes first, or also mix something else into them.
No Idea which Weapon Builds i want to test, as i have about Zero Oversight yet.

Im torn for my Bard. I will go Staff/Wand or Book with light armor and stay at the back of the team keeping Archers, Healers and Casters alive and topped up with mana and mobile, etc. Or I am going Heavy armor with a melee weapon and I will be in the trenches hasting melee and mitigating damage, hasting attacks etc.
I dont have the time to invest in two sets of raid level gear, so I need to pick one lol. too... many... options (faints)
Imagine having "too many Options" in a RPG VideoGame. When was the last time this was the Case ?
In an MMO ?
When was there the last time the Feeling the Content has so many Options you can't decide ?

It was a very unique class, good at soloing, but Captain's buffs made it hugely beneficial for group play especially in PVP. Most MMO's I've played since haven't really had anything similar too it.
Personally, I'm looking forward to trying fighter/tank with bard/cleric as subclass, or bard/cleric with fighter/tank subclass, and hopefully something will play similar to Captain, while still being viable in endgame content ofc
Ya I can't wait to theory craft with class skills, weapon skills and gear skills to find builds I will be excited to play. My guess building a skill set will almost like deck building in card games, with the paper, rock, scissors combat.
