Character model size

I think all the Archetypes should have different size character models.

Tanks should be the largest and Mages the smallest. Everything else would be somewhere in between.

Not gonna happen i think. But i bet it would be a very welcome Feature if one can adjust the Sizes of the own Characters for a bit.

Like every single Race as in half a Head taller or smaller than the average Size. This way, People could get a little bit bigger Dwarves,

or a bit smaller Renkai. ;) And all the Races would look a bit more smooth and realistic regarding Immersion.

I think the agency should remain with the players on this. If they want to be a big mage, then let them, assuming the character creator allows height adjustment.
  • I have speculated height before as:
Medieval European male humans are on average 1.7 meters (about 67 inches) tall.
My estimated human heights could range from 48in to 84in (1.2192m to 2.1336m) for either sex.
    Empyrean elves could range from 54in - 90in (1.3716m to 2.286) tall.
Py,rai elves are the same as Empyrean excluding antlers in terms of height.
Dunir dwarves could range from 30in to 50in (0.762m to 1.27m) tall.
Nikua are the same as Dunir.
Vek orcs could range from 66in to 102in (1.6764m to 2.5908m) tall.
    Ren,kai orcs could range from 60in to 96in (1.524m to 2.4384m) tall.
Sometimes Tulnar could descend from giants, Tulnar height could range from 30in to 120in (0.762m to 3.048m) tall.

No ty. I want to roll choice. If I want to RP a
Hulk with a 2H Hammer. Or, a Superboy char that's small and strong. I should have these option. I make my own story.

Height will be adjustable in the character creator.

While the idea of having different size character models for each archetype is interesting, it might introduce more challenges than benefits. For instance, varying character sizes could impact gameplay balance, especially in PvP scenarios, where smaller characters might be harder to hit, giving certain classes an unintended advantage. Additionally, players typically enjoy customizing their characters to fit their vision, and locking them into specific sizes based on archetype could limit that creativity.

Instead, focusing on making each archetype visually distinct through armor designs, animations, and effects might be a better approach. This way, players can still identify archetypes at a glance without compromising gameplay balance or customization options.

  • I have two main reasons for my view point:

    1. I am a big fan of immersion and i always hated when MMO's let you make a 2 feet tall Gnome Tanks etc.
It just completely throws the immersion out the window and ruins the roleplaying experience.

    2. It would be a great solution for the Class identifying issue in PVP encounters.
All classes can wear any type of gear, so we currently have no way to visually identify player classes.
We have to completely rely on the nameplate icons and that is pretty big problem if you ask me.
Class size differences would give us a visual hint to identify player targets, especially in mass PVP.

    No.
    Gandalf was tall.

I dont like gnome warriors etc, but that's the mistake mmos make when they dont have race locked classes (with the common archetypes finding a variance in all the main races), but you are going too far with your reasonings regarding gameplay and immersion.
There are far bigger issues with immersion than small tanks and large mages.

I could see an argument for class affecting overall muscle definition, but height? No thanks

Why does a mage have to be the smallest? You ever seen an elf mage?
Just make the races different sizes and not the actual archetypes

The size differences would be relative to your race. As in all Elves are quite tall, but Elf warriors are taller or at least more wide and muscular than Elf mages etc.

The point is to have realistic differences between classes for identifying purposes and world building.

When you have a 200kg Orc running at you, it should be obvious that it isn't a rogue or mage, but a warrior.

Height should have no bearing whatsoever on a character's class.
