AoC Companion App: Player Expectations and Wishlist

Member, Alpha Two
Hey there,
With the development of the game progressing, I thought it would be a great time to start a discussion about the upcoming Companion App that has been hinted at. As we know, the app is supposed to play a significant role in the Citizenship system and other aspects of the game. But what are your expectations for it? What features do you think would make the app truly valuable?
Questions to Consider:
1. Must-Have Features:
What functionalities do you believe the Companion App absolutely needs? For example, do you want it to allow for remote access to your city’s management, notifications for events like sieges, or perhaps a way to interact with your guild members outside of the game?
2. Quality of Life Enhancements:
Are there specific quality-of-life features you hope the app will include? Maybe a marketplace tracker, crafting management, or even just an easy way to check your inventory while on the go?
3. During Alpha 2:
Do you think it would be beneficial for Intrepid Studios to roll out the app during Alpha 2, even if it's in a limited capacity? How would early access to the app enhance your Alpha experience?
4. General Thoughts:
What are your general thoughts on the idea of having a companion app? Do you see it as an essential tool for your gameplay, or just a nice-to-have addition?
5. Concerns or Skepticism:
Are there any concerns you have about the app? Maybe about its potential to create imbalance or distract from the core game experience?
Let’s share our ideas, wishlist features, and any concerns we might have.

I have iPhone 4, so no new apps will run on it, but I still wanna make use of this program. I know I can use an emulator, but I'd prefer to not use info related to my account on a random 3rd party emul.
That’s a solid suggestion! A web version in addition to the app would definitely broaden accessibility. Not everyone wants to download yet another app, and having a web version would allow players to quickly access key features from any device without needing to install anything. Plus, it might be easier for Intrepid to update and iterate on the web version first, then port those features to the app.
I also think it would be useful for people who are at work or on a public computer—being able to check in on your city, manage auctions, or chat with your guild without needing to pull out your phone would be a big win for convenience.
I want to wait and test some of the systems first.
