The thought of the A2 Keys...

My 2 cents here, and I have not been some intrepid apologist.

These prices are fine. People getting upset are just people feeling FOMO, and that's ok. But 99% of the people making noise are wanting to play a game, not alpha test a game.

The delay to October, worthwhile to get upset about. I was. You can probably go look in the official discord and see me whining

Being upset about the key prices and availability, relax. Go touch grass for a bit. It's not a big deal.

I think it was setup this was to intentionally prohibit people.
What I mean is if it was $25. You get a bunch of people that won't test really but will complain and complain and complain. Right? This higher cost puts more skin in the game for actual testing, and prohibits the screaming 12 year old's (who will be 18 when t releases lol) from going in and crying about how PVP hurts their feelings. Which has killed a ton of games recently. (Anthem is what comes to mind. as a shining example. but anti PVP mindset wasn't the only thing that killed that game by any means)

When it comes down to it, I already have Voyager Plus, and I am not worried one bit about A2 Keys being $120 for the reasons listed above. They need people to take time to give feedback, test when its boring, write up when there's nothing to do, etc. It's Alpha. I've been in ACTUAL Betas and Alphas since Eve Online, they typically aren't just "a ton of fun" but we get to guide the game in a better way and help things along with giving good, rounded out feedback that seeks to better the situation of the game as a whole, as opposed to "THIS IS BROKEN< WTF? REEEEEEEEE" Which we all know will be happening a ton later on as the masses come in. I'm sure its there now, but the ratio is probably in favor of the actual testers.

Now, with that said, and agreeing with Intrepid's stance with the keys. I DO think they should let these keys go into Beta access as well. To me, that just makes sense. I hope they take a second look at this and change that ideal.

Here's the cool thing, if you disagree with me, thats totally fine. I dont think you're stupid or dumb or anything like that (Doesnt mean you arent tho lol) but we just disagree. However, I think the price point set is a good thing.

    I think it's fair. $120 for1-3 years of access. I spent $60 at McDonald's this week.

I agree with you. The cheaper they sell them the more people will probably buy and forget or leave.
They'll end up having to sell more keys to ge the consistent testers they wanted.

Price is fine. People complaining will either buy it anyway or way until other keys for betas lol. I'm really happy they priced it at 100$+, because it respects people that bought packs.

Is the price an issue ?

If the pov is to play -or/and test- any kind of « generic » game, yes, 100$+ definitely seem to be a really high price, given how much costs a fully released game these days.

If the pov is to be able to play -or/and test- an incredibly promising game's alpha, with a LOT of great functionnalities, after years of patience, then 100$+ does not seem to be excessive (to me at least).

I totally get how "unfair" the price may look for an alpha access, since I don't like spending this kind of (relatively) big amount of money myself at once for a game, but looking at the big picture... again, I don't think it's excessive.

While I personally already got my supporter pack and this doesnt really impact me, I do think the alpha keys probably should include beta access. 100-120$ is a fair bit of change for most people, and if its true that Intrepid actually need more testers this current "deal" is out of reach for quite a few that otherwise could be a great resource for testing. Sweetening the deal with access to include the beta stages would make more people consider it.

I have a supporter pack as well. I don't think the alpha keys are a good value, further I've never heard of such a thing. I assume some other game has tried to sell limited testing access at relatively high cost before, but I can't think of one. As I stated in a different thread, regardless of the reasoning behind it (some of which I simply do not believe), it is a bad look IMO.

the price is actually spot on tbh i thought it was gonna be in the 80-100 range personally but if they went to cheap it tick off people already purchased in since they were under the assumption there last chance was January or what not :P

Like i spent $250 to test games like crowfall in the past and that game died due to releasing to early but during the alpha phase i honostly made my money worth i think i played that game for like 1.5 years.

A2 will last probaly like 2 years minimum optimisticly but probaly more likely around the 3 year mark and i think it safe to say you will get your bang for your buck for 120 bucks :P

alpha servers run to release then becomes PTR servers so even if u dont get access to beta you will have the game till release still. beta just a fresh start realy a few weeks before release since there suppose to be short test run with everything in it. basicly just server test/fresh start test run before the release.
