Utility for Rogues - Shadow Illusions

I think playing into the 'Shadow' theme of Rogue's class names could be pretty fun.

- Summon temporary shadows either with a passive proc or an ability, summoner secondary could make them more permanent.

- Allow players to control them with unique commands, allow the player to teleport their 'real' body to an illusion for mixups.

- Shadows could apply certain status effects like inflict blindness/snares when damaged too much or killed, or maybe have an option to inflict chill when they attack something. "ghostly touch"

  • The idea of incorporating shadow manipulation into a rogue class is quite fascinating. A rogue who has mastered the art of shadow manipulation would use shadows to enhance their stealth abilities, create temporary shadow constructs, and summon shadow creatures to aid in combat or utility scenarios. This subclass could focus on dark magic or shadow energy to manipulate the battlefield, blending seamlessly into the darkness and striking from unexpected angles.

The ability to summon shadow entities or create shadow minions/vessels either through dark magic or by resurrecting the shadow essence of fallen monsters adds a unique and tactical edge to gameplay. This concept draws inspiration from the Shadow Monarch character in the Solo Leveling series, where the protagonist begins as a rogue and later undergoes a class advancement, transitioning into a hybrid summoner role.

In Solo Leveling, the Shadow Monarch has the ability to resurrect monsters into shadow vessels, each tailored for specific roles. For example, one is a powerful mage, another serves as a tank, and others excel in DPS (damage per second). This allows for a strategic approach where the player can summon the appropriate shadow companion based on the situation or enemy encounter.

Such a mechanic could bring depth to a game, giving players the ability to command a variety of shadow minions, each with distinct abilities suited to different scenarios. Whether you’re seeking a tank to absorb damage, a mage for ranged attacks, or a DPS shadow to deal rapid blows, the concept of managing these dark entities creates engaging and dynamic gameplay possibilities.

If you’re interested in the Solo Leveling series, I highly recommend checking out the manga, which is an excellent read. There’s also an anime adaptation, though as of now, there’s only one season available.

All archetypes manipulate essence, so I"m sure there will be some shadowness in the rogue's base kit.

I think it seems fairly fun and creative to play around.
