Alpha II Launcher?

GalkusGalkus Member, Alpha Two
We're just over one week away from the 25th launch date. No pre-installing and or character creation prior to Friday? Seems like a mistake to me, I may have missed the news on this topic.

No word yet but I'm sure the forum will blow up when it happens.

No separate character creator client until later this year … but still included in-game for October 25th, Galkus.

As mentioned above, I’m sure we’ll hear about A2 e-mail invitations from giddy Forum-goers.

It's odd that they don't use this weekend to let all 25th Alpha 2 players log in with an NDA so they can check what will happen on the 25th. So they can avoid most of the chaos on the 25th when the veil of the NDA falls down.

    The 25th isn’t a game release or launch … we’re simply starting Alpha-2.

No one is missing anything significant the first few hours after the servers are up.

I think we are all curious about what the next week will bring. and how they plan to handle it. Should be a learning lesson all the way around. whatever happens Im sure we will all help work out the kinks. looking forward to seeing everyone in game though, thats for sure!

i just hope there is some form of pre load available even if its 1-2 days for all those people that aint got Gbit internet. or maybe thats the way steven plans to slow down the login and server traffic

I wasn’t primarily concerned about the situation itself, but rather the potential for negative press if we end up in a scenario similar to what happened with New World. However, in the bigger picture, it’s not the end of the world. The NDA is simply being lifted, and the world will get its first look.

its the race to avoid the queues :P only to for client to crash 15 minutes of entering the game and being placed in a 1k player queue :p

I will respect whatever Intrepid does.

That being said, I highly suggest that the launcher and download service be released at least three to four days before the alpha 2 opening at the bare minimum.

There are a number of reasons for this.

To prevent a bandwidth log jam with people downloading.

To given those with slower interest speeds time to download.

If something is shown to be wrong with the download, there is time to fix the matter. This does happen.

Also, a repair program with the installation program would be nice. That way if there is data corruption in the download, the repair function can be used to find the corrupt files, saving people from having to do a complete reinstallation of the game.

Next 5 weeks will all about server stability. If you manage to play that's a bonus. Phase 1 is about getting this server tech up to scale. Some days I'm sure you will be looking at the log in screen, more then anything else. Also this will be the first real stress test for this new server tech. I'm sure things will happen they have no forseen. Get ready for a bumby ride.

    Pretty lame ... ...

I just can not un~remember how i heard about it earlier this Year around February to late March ... ... ... and i think even Sir Steven himself sounded pretty excited to tell People about the Feature ... ...

    And then ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... nothing.

    Exactly this.

I don't even have 'slow internet', it's pretty good... but I'd rather the Launch be GO TIME, not Download Time.

When I sit down to play, I want to be able to just log in and play... we've waited a long time (dropped my cash in OCT 2020 I believe, so 4 Years and a Month). It's not going to KILL us to wait, but it sure would feel better after that long wait if we could already have it downloaded so we can just Play when the ball drops.

I love how so many People think exactly the same - and the same that i also think. :D take my like, Please.

When in Four Days the Alpha Two drops - > wouldn't it suck Donkeyballs if we get the Link and the first +24 Hours are going to be downloading and/or installing ? Poof(!) one Day of the Weekend-Spot Test gone.

All of us this won't be the End of the World - but will it be demanded to much to ask for Possibilities to prevent it ? ;)
