How Does the Cleric Play?

Alpha 2 in 4 days! Super excited.
For the people who have been testing Cleric, how is it? How is your damage? Any problems taking down same level mobs?
What about the ratio of Clerics to others? Are Clerics in demand?
How does the healing feel? Is the rez ability something you get early on, or when do you get that?
It would be awesome to hear experiences and thoughts from the people who have been playing Cleric!

Taking down same-level mobs solo is fairly simple, it's the usual(?) slow paced attrition, whacking them with your weapon and occasionally using an attack skill inbetween all the healing management.
Damage is hard to explain because it depends on which weapon you use/make and for a while now, it's been possible to get magical power on melee weapons, which makes you better at healing but can be risky when soloing hard things because of some... various issues.
Overall, if you're good at pulling, or are used to old games where Tanks don't just 'automatically' hold aggro/hate/whatever whenever they press a button, you'll be fine.
Can't really answer the ratio/demand question since I only play with my own group, and I've preferred a Node (and Server) that had less population for most of the testing so far.
If you enjoy healing a lot, you'll like it. If you want to do things other than healing, you'll probably like it more later on.
Curious what skills you're using most? I only played about 8 hours last weekend, (I'm level 5 if I remember correctly), but trying to put together a plan for most effective healing this coming weekend.
As I add a few more levels, I'm thinking Improved Soothing Glow & Improved Mend as my primary spam buttons, Deliverance for my bigger single target (instead of Judgement), and Defiant Light seems pretty important as soon as I can get it. And Blessed Weapon (all 3 to get the mana regen).
I'm guessing you probably have a fair amount of game time at this point. Care to share your favorite skills?
Much of my game time was in testing phases when the devs were putting in major hard work (much props to them) to fix a specific set of bugs, and I was trying to continually recreate that bug, so I don't think my information is that helpful.
With that said, I normally go Soothing Glow, Healing Touch (I am almost always in melee range and right now this skill works on self for whatever reason), Abundant Soothing Glow, Flash Cure, Defiant Light, then Bless Weapon, all forms. Then Consecrating Wave and its upgrade. I don't take Deliverance or Judgement at all so far.
But again, take what I say with a pillar of salt, there were lots of wipes in earlier tests, I soloed a lot, and I spent a large amount of time on testing things not related to Combat even when my group was coordinated for things.
Thank you, I appreciate the response.
Flash Cure definitely seems like a must-have; I just don't recall seeing it on the lower section of the skill tree. Maybe it was there and I overlooked it. I really wish I could find a copy of the skill tree outside of the game, but can't find it anywhere at this point (not on the wiki). I'm going to screenshot it in-game this weekend.
yes, its op. not with a mace tho, I used a different weapon. super good soloing when you cant find a party.
also, armor is different in ashes. just because you are a cleric (or a mage) you arent automatically required to wear robes. it just depends on what type of defense you want.
Blown past falling sands…
This is the type of build I have exclusively played thus far! I ran with a 2h greatsword primary, wand secondary (hitting multiple mobs from afar is nice!) but I my try bow! Some history, I primarily played a retributrion paladin in TBC/Wrath, and that was the "style" I was trying to emulate lol.
Overall, I enjoy the heck out of it! I ran with Essence Infusion over Divine Infusion insta cast, never had mana issues even spamming heals. Would normally grind with 4-6 mobs very easily. Using heals as needed, LOTS of weapon attack spams lol, smite on cooldown. I went max dmg in the greatsword with bleeds. Bless weapon and its augments are awesome. Divine Flare AOE with Divine Retribution Augment helps with AoE heals and dmg. Primarily ran with max dmg accessories and leather armor.
Ran into a few other clerics that were always struggling with mana and would ask what I was doing, mainly switching to Essence Infusion over Divine Infusion helped them! I literally never stopped to recover mana once I made that switch. Gave my old copper greatsword to another cleric and he never looked back lol.
Overall, I am super excited to see Highsword and Templar combos.
Hope it helps!
