Pleaaaaaase let us cast nearly any ranged weapon or ability without requiring a target! (Like GW2)

For the sake of immersion and player agency, let me shoot the ground, or the sky, or just throw spells out willy nilly if I want to.

One of the best things of GW2 was that your abilities didn't feel "gamified" in that way.

I actually remember this being a topic of discussion on these forums and other places many times and that it's been said that such abilities and weapons wouldn't require a target, but as far as I can tell in the Alpha 2, I can't just shoot at will

Right now I'd imagine that this was done to lessen the potential load of freeflowing projectiles (that all gotta be tracked btw).

But yes, I agree that we need to get this at some point during A2, once potential stability issues are addressed.

That's true, when I found out after I made this post that even melee abilities will "hit" the target even if they were far out of range (like dodging as the attack starts) but were in it when it started, I figured it was probably the case

I just really want to make it known to the team that this is something requested so that they hopefully don't just, "will it works the way it is well enough"

If calculating projectiles is an issue when servers are more capable and we have 500 person battles then it is what it is lol

If I may be a little blunt, from what I've experienced so far, combat as a whole is very... stale. It feels like I'm playing SWTOR, where combat is a means to an end rather than something that is fun within itself. And that's fine if that's the goal, especially considering that OSRS is my favorite MMORPG of all time and has probably the most basic (but unique!) combat, but I don't think I'll be pulling off fun combos like I did in TERA or Lost Ark. Nor will I be playing strategically like I did on Albion Online, which has a few basic skills with massive impact. It's just button mashing until the thing I'm fighting dies. I might be assuming too much considering I played only the warrior and mage classes, but the combat feels uninspired and seems to exist just to exist.

i don't think its a good idea, it could change everything in the combat.

How so? Every ability would act the exact same when you have a target

The only thing that would be different is you wouldn't get the "invalid target" error

This isn't something new, GW2 already does this, and even adds a bit of depth to combat, allowing abilities that create barriers that stop projectiles to exist and being able to dodge behind cover to avoid them.

It helps make combat even more dynamic and engaging, and much less "gamey" (avoiding things like not being able to cast because they are hiding behind a 2 inch wooden pole)

In Truth you can shoot whenever you want, wherever you want - as well.

It would make no Sense in our real 3D-World that when a HUUUUUUUUUGE Line of Enemies comes your way, for Example an Army charging at the Army YOU are in - and of Course they all want to kill you, ( x'D )

that You can not just "shoot" with all Abilities and Possibilities you have into their Direction. That you would need to "LOCK ON" with your mind and focus first. x'D

The classical " don't shoot before You see the white in their Eyes " comes to mind. :D

Is there any benefit in giving you the ability to shoot skills at will anywhere, other than 'now I can do that'?

I played Albion give or take maybe for a month and I was casting whatever was available, I don't even remember having any combo mechanics. It was a while ago, maybe I don't remember something though. in AoC you apply status effect that allows you to deal more damage If you cast them in the correct order.
of course anything will eventually die in any game if you cast the same spell or any random spell, but aoc has a mechanic that allows you to do it efficiently.

Yes, a huge one that has already been stated, whether you personally recognize it as a valid one or not. Immersion. If you for some reason need another reason, player agency.

So? Just make it so that the combos don't work if they don't hit a target... like how it's already done in GW2 lol
