29.5 hours to level 25

ShivaFangShivaFang Member, Alpha Two
Level 6 in 40 minutes (plunder quests)
Level 10 in 3.5 hours (various grinding spots)
Level 25 in 29.5 hours (Crix's video with the 3 star bears).

the latter of those requires a tank holding aggro on 10 mobs at a time while the rest of the party AOEs them down. It is my opinion that tanks shouldn't be that powerful. They should absolutely be able to hold 1 target - but multiple targets should require juggling and the party managing their DPS to avoid pulling enemies off the tank. Hopefully this gets rebalanced in future phases.

Granted, Crix's video will just send the large zerg guilds there, so it will be highly contested from now on, I think.

Crix's group abused a bug. Those mobs weren't actually dealing the appropriate amount of damage.

I disagree. If you have a tank in your group that's his only job. Pick up mobs and hold out on damage. Threat shouldn't be a thing as long as there is a tank doing damage to the mobs. It's another story if there is not tank where you want to do stuff like kiting etc.

I think the more accurate thing to say is that someone played 29.5 hours and also reached level 25. However, this is alpha - and it's generous to say the game is in a rough state - so attempting to form some reliable metric around the actual time to level is useless.

Yeah so? They were using a bug. Report it and that's it.

The 3 tiered goblin event near the burning caravans east of Lionhold rewards a large amount of exp which allows you to level multiple times upon completion. Pair that with the other small single tier goblin event and you're rockin' for a brand new character.

Hanging on to one critical mob I agree, hanging into 10 or so I disagree.
You should be required to play smart and not brain off and mass aoe at full strength.
Taking on 3 or mobs above your level should be a significant risk for the reward of potential speed killing. DPS should focus fire the tanks main target or tone down the AOE (not full blast) to avoid peeling.

At least without augments. When secondaries come into play I could see tank/mages using ice magic to help root the additional enemies or other tactics to help keep mobs sticky.

not a fan of Ashes allowing AOE farms in general.

Nor am I a fan of a tank capable of holding more than 2, at most 3 mobs.

My meteric is for a EQ style. You better use your CCs and pull carefully. I dont see too much healing either. The NPCs of equal level should still be hurting tanks and chunking all non tanks.

Assuming Armor Def is like this (example)

Mage - for every 1 point of phy def = 1 point of mitigated damage
Fighter = for ever 1 point of phy def = 3 point of mitigated damage
Tank = for every 1 point of phy def = 10 point of mitigated damage

A skilled tank can hold 2 aggro, all others requires the party CC rotation to control or risk wiping.

Make this game DIFFICULT & REWARDING! Give me elden ring level pulls.

The real issue here is that the video and spot he references with the tank is a bug/exploit that shouldn't be possible at all. Having a discussion of tanks based around that isn't realistic.

I should get comfy, knowing that i will " NEVER " reach LvL 25 in Phase 1.

-> Fridays seem to be apparently "forever" have the Servers down until the likes of +19:00 O'Clock to 22:00 O'Clock in the Evening for me. So one Day less than 3 Days of testing.

-> Disconnects, "DDOS Attacks" - and Reallife shave it down to less than 5 Hours or so on Saturday and Sunday.

-> Since i don't farm Goblins or other Mobs every single Minute i am online, i am not putting in maximum Efficiency to level up. :D

Should have tried to sneak my Way to Winstead or the likes to see the Camps grow into Villages. ;) i had a guess and a nasty one at that, that it would be this way -> but hey this is okay. I will just do what i just wrote at the Beginning of Phase Two then.

If i can even log in then and not experience Error Messages and DDOS Attacks again.

I am glad Sir Steven and his mighty Crew are finally starting to hammer the Game into Existence from the Alpha Two onwards. But damn they are not to be envied. That is truly a rough Start.

I mean, folks are using EQ as a litmus and ignoring the fact that AOE farms did exist (had good RvR too!). Seb, Karnor's Castle, The Grey, the towers in PoP, etc. I am not saying using broken mechanics to farm XP should be glorified, but if you are going to compare AoC to other games, be truthful and genuine. As for tanks, I think they should have 1-2 emergency skills that allow them to grab and hold agro for up to 3 seconds longer than it takes for CC to be applied (3 seconds to allow for weird lag or bad targeting) but it should have a longer cool down (30 seconds?) or something like that.

That said, I don't know what newer games some of you all have been playing lately but in the games I play where they use taunt and/or have tanks, not enough people want to play the class(es) that does this (and support/heals are a different problem). We should want tanks to enjoy tanking for reasons other than being able to hold agro on x number of mobs at once (although that would still be important) aka Meatshield001. I tank when I absolutely have to but I am one of those people that has to be constantly moving (IRL and in game) otherwise I get bored and/or loose focus.
