Oceanic servers request

Played for pretty much entire weekend and intentionally ran into walls/tested classes etc, I have a heap of bugs, glitches, graphic errors, places but I am unsure if this was a desync issue due to ping from Australia, judt wondering if there a plans to include even just 1 oceanic server.

For testing A2? No. Betas might have OCE servers, but it is not guaranteed. Launch is the first real confirmation of an OCE server.

As an ozzie/oceanic I share the same sentiment, but to expect alpha testing with global server distribution was highly unlikely...

I provided some minimal feedback with my NA/EU access and confirmed latency/ping was severe and unplayable for the most part. Though most of the network issue did iron out to some extent over the next testing phase any lingering issues were still exacerbated by server distancing/location.

I think an OCE beta server would be a solid investment to get the ball rolling on the infrastructure as the AUD$ is weak, though its possible the server might get planted in SE Asia, which would still suck for kiwis and australians

While OCE server will be nice the ping doesnt make the game unplayable

OCE servers coming when game releases
Bugs, glitches have nothing to do with ping
Its a test so gotta remember these things are expected

As an Aussie I admit that having on oceanic server would be awesome but also feel it's unrealistic to hope for one during an alpha.

That said, I would like to see a server that is designated as an oceanic one while not actually being placed over here for the testing phases. This is partly so that most of the people on said server would all be suffering from the same ping issues making it even. Community is always a big part of MMOs and allowing people from oceania to have a server that's "theirs" early on would have many benefits for the oceanic community even if it still suffers from high ping and a bit of lag.

The other and main part of the reason is that as the test goes on and we start getting into things like castle/node sieges and such, it has been said multiple times that these (and possibly certain other events) will be restricted to "prime time". For those of us in oceania this means we likely wont be able to participate in thiese events, unless we can set alarms/go without sleep. Any game that is going to have actual time restrictions on when certain things can be done really needs to have some designated servers where those special times suit other regions.

It would be nice to have a server who's "prime time" is actually adjusted to our timezone even though it isn't located here. Maybe we could get this put in for phase 3 or final phase of the alpha? Even if thats not possible I feel that if it turns out a real oceanic server is too much to ask for the Beta, then a quasi oceanic server should definately be a go. This would also benefit all those Americans who work nights or keep odd hours so jump on board!

To close I would just like to mention that others here have indicated that Oceanic servers have been pretty much confirmed on release so massive kudos to interpid for this!

In a pvp situation ping does make the game unplayable.

killing rubber banding goblins or chopping a tree and not getting any resources might be a server wide bug that can be tolerated for some at a distance ping disadvantage...

When its player vs player then a person with less than 50 ping has a massive advantage than the player with 200+

Also OCE servers were part of the kickstarter brief, So it will happen just a matter of when.

Yesss I remember I could only play on L2 private servers back in the day. Having a dedicated oce server would be great. We'd only need the one server for our region too.

The only thing that's stopped me from joining the Alpha so far is the ping issue

FFXIV OCE servers are dead. An MMORPG giant with millions of subscribers, and their Aussie servers are empty.

Probably because its dominated be native Japan players on Japanese Servers.

I understand it's a popular game. If there is no one in the Oceanic region playing FF14 why would there be new servers? like 8 of them...

isn't the content server population crossover?

All I'm asking is for maybe 1 or 2 persistent OCE servers for Ashes not 10+

Population of AU/NZ is about 32million so if we can accommodate maybe 5 players out of 10000 people that's still about 16000 players...

I play from Japan. OCE servers have almost double the latency that playing on the US side does cause of how internet traffic is routed. So don't lump all of Asia into some "ruining OCE" conspiracy. For a long time Intrepid didn't differentiate between OCE and SEA. Japan, Korea, and to a large extent China are NEA and won't touch a SEA or OCE server unless forced by region locks. Good thing we won't have them here. Intrepid knows where you are playing from, where your pack was purchased from, and all those other metrics. If they feel it isn't worth it to them to provide testing servers in those regions cause of cost vs impact, that is on them. Not like they just decided and announced it either. Has been asked and answered, posted on the wiki, and known for years what their plans for other regions coming online were.

An MMO giant would be WoW and there OCE servers are populated…
    What a stupid comment

From australia too and game pretty much ran flawlessly for me outside of the stuff effectiving everyone like crashes ping seems to have very little effect when it comes to combat/movment compared to thing like T&l where u rubberband every time u walk on uneven terrain or fall :p

however they did have plans for Sydney server when game releases but not for testing

Unfortunately, I doubt OCE servers will be any better. Yes we may have decent ping, but they will be dead servers.
There is a reason why we dont have OCE servers in ESO.
It is pop based and we just dont have it here.
  • Uncommon SenseUncommon Sense Member, Braver of Worlds, Kickstarter, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
I stopped playing ESO because it didn't have OCE servers. I backed AoC because it would have an OCE server.

I would appreciate it people would stop trying to gaslight the issue saying its going to die/no players.

If I play on an EU/NA server it wont be at peak times, I'll be pulling the GY shift so to me feels like a dead server.

for average PVE gaming the PING isn't really a problem. The problem is competitive PVP content.

If the result is -50 local ping instead for 200+ global ping then AU/NZ players who choose NA/EU servers are doing themselves a disservice.
