[MEGA THREAD] Survey: Ranged DPS Class

edited October 30 in General Discussion
I'm starting this thread to launch a survey about the two classes that currently deal ranged damage. There doesn’t seem to be a consensus on which class has higher DPS in different situations, so a survey might better capture the majority’s opinion.

In my view, Ranger and Mage should have distinct roles: Mage should be more focused on AoE and casting, while Ranger should excel at single-target and sustained DPS. However, this might not be the case currently. So, I’m opening this thread with this survey and, of course, feel free to share your opinions.

The survey covers several questions, both about the type of DPS and how it’s achieved, as well as different levels, since classes scale differently.

Why you restricting each class, different builds for different situations. Mage doesn’t just need to be an aoe bot. Can also be a kiting + CC into high burst single target damage

I think different talents should change the way your class acts, so for example can spec into all aoe and/or hybrid or spec into single target burst damage or consistent damage

Shouldn’t come down to how you “feel” and more so into how everyone wants to play their class with the freedom to go into different combat directions pending the way you have used your talents in said class

Every class has multiple build styles just have to figure out how to build your character. IF you take every talent that makes your abilities do a bit more damage but require charging or casting then yeah, you're not going anywhere but from what I saw of the ranger, it's extremely mobile and able to pump out a lot of damage in quick bursts. So, I am not sure where people are coming from where they are saying its bad or it's just a bad mage. We should hit level 25 at least before we go ruling out a class as viable....

Of course, but for now we can keep this survey as is. In the future we can add new surveys taking into account the situations you mention.

I get the survey, but it doesn’t reflect the other side of the coin

For example yes a Mage does single handedly do the most burst damage in the game, the counter-measure? Is it also dies the quickest, essentially a glass cannon type class with high risk, high reward as it has always been and should be since the dawn of time

Yes, but the survey is just to rate the DPS. I get your point tho.
