Targetting an enemy should display distance for combat clarity
Without an accurate distance count to gauge skill usage its very awkward trying to guess when you should start trying to activate some abilities (near AOEs, gap closers, long range skills). I wouldn't say its "ESSENTIAL" but its a trivial add to the UI with a huge impact in the QoL for combat in general
