The writing for the races is great. I feel like there is many opportunities for us lore heads following AOC development already! My one concern is on the Kaelar race and the face of it, As a black person seeing a black person placed in a more European style society and culture is off putting. I see where it is going as far as including diversity but I believe that putting them in the space (where as a black person) they are met the most opposition and acts of harm. Makes it seem like you are trying to overwrite a wrong this game has no responsibility too or needs to fix. Not saying that black people should not be Kaelar just not the face. To me the Vaelune would be a much more respectful place for those of darker skin to reside and thrive. I know these are just example modules but it says a lot as it is. So I hope that in the future there is some more awareness in how you are including other culture especially when it comes to black people and other people of color.
I think to put them in a place of culture where historically they were not is disrespectful to the reality of the history of colonialization and oppression done to black people as a whole. There is empowerment and then there is erasure and I can say placing a Black women as the face of more european/ british culture comes off as(erasure) a oversite of nuance to black inclusion. I know some people reading this will say it is just a fantasy world and to that I would say that art can only be a reflection of real life. There is no way that the world of Verra, or any made up world could fell so complex without that imitation. All this to say that you can include ethnicities from all parts of our world, just be mindful and ask or read up a little on the history and the privilege that some cultures have from things like colorism and colonization. Empowering black people, women or any other marginalized groups should only be included if your art team and writing team do the work to read up on why they are marginalized. Replacing the historically oppressed in the position of the the oppressor will only show up in your future work as obtuse and indicative of a lack of intentions to actually represent a people's and there culture.
There is already so many stories and games that do this wrong so I wanted to point that out before the game is set in stone lore wise. I only want to see ashes of creation be the best it can be. I truly believe this will only deepen the lore's complexity when aligning and respecting what it is imitating from our world. Love a knight that is black but maybe give them back stories in your shadow writing to how they ended up in more white dominate population.
Hope to see some sort of response to this, I am following the game from a distance right now but am hoping for the best because your team has been doing great things, almost a dream come true for me if this all comes together right. Reaching the right people is important and will really speak a lot about the community you create! Good luck!
