Loading saved character design file is corrupted

I haven't been able to get into the game since I keep getting booted from the character creation screen. I tried saving a file of my characters edits so far so I could load it > do some more edits > save before getting booted again.
Unfortunately, while I'm able to load the character save file, it loads totally messed up and looks nothing like my character did when I saved it. For example, loads in with the face all messed up and a bald head among other things. My character had the long blonde hair option and a normal face obviously lol. Appears to be some kind of issue with the files saving/loading correctly
