Caravan rewards... or lack thereof

I just played the game for the first time yesterday and I am enjoying myself so far. I now have a lvl 4 mage and lvl 5 fighter and started a new Cleric to check that out.
I got to level 2 and saw a Caravan pop up so I joined it. Being a cleric I got invited to a raid quickly enough and off we went. About halfway thru someone pulled a nasty Spider mob that we killed where I think it (with it's adds) shot me from lvl 2 to 4.
over 30 minutes, tons of healing some pvp and a dozen or so rezzes later we get to the destination. Then it just ends at the new outpost. Just ends...
Now I am not asking for epic phat lewts or anything but if we are going with the realism that non-humanoids don't drop swords or armor and such.
But shouldn't caravans at least pay the guards that kept them alive a few silver or something?
Now I'm level 4, lost a few cells away from my starting area where all the other players are lvl 9 or higher and not a single copper to my name to even buy a drink to tell others of my adventures over

Steven said something about progression paths for defenders and aggressors.
But yes, currently helping random people out isn't worth it, and I would like to see that change.
but to be fair you should get XP for defending caravans or something could do XP dept if you fail too so people dont declare defender then run off for example
My biggest concern is that other people can't put commodities in my caravan and get profit from that. There should be a type of gameplay that invests in other people's caravans and profits that way.
As it stands, it's up to me to gather enough glint (untradable), buy commodities (untradable), and then pay people that defend my caravan.
can do what my guild did and had every person take a caravan convoy
However that being said allowing people whos sign up for defending having an exclusing 1x1 slot they can load for themselfs might be a worth wild option however not sure how u would be able to load after uit launchged since u cant have cargo in inventory.
this way all defenders can atleast invest a minor amount in a trip with a 1x1 size crate or commodity and would also potentialy make well defendede caravans more of a juicy target since u get the original caravan stuff along with the potential 1 crate per defender potential
