Suggestion: When Killed by NPC, Lock Ash Pile from Player Looting for 5 Minutes

Would love to see a slight tweak to the player looting system. If you die to 100% NPC damage your ash pile should be locked for a couple of minutes before any random player running by can loot you.

This would give us a chance to run back to our own ash pile and get back the lost materials. If you are bound too far away and/or just can't get back to your ash pile in time then your corpse unlocks and anyone can loot it.

When I kill an NPC, no one else can loot the corpse for a couple of minutes so why should a player be able to loot my corpse right away when an NPC kills me.

no - get gud, don't die.

Great suggestion. It's super annoying when you're grinding with a group of pick-ups and they loot you when you die. The only way to punish this behavior is to kick the looter and/or kill them, but if they don't defend you will just become corrupted, which is frustrating because technically you're not the one who did a "bad" thing.

You should at least flag combattant for a few minutes if you loot the ashes of a non-combattant player imo. Risk/reward. It would also allow an option in settings to not be able to loot non-combattant ashes, which can easily happen by accident when you're in a big party and trying to loot a mob.

    Take the Ultima Online route.

If you loot a player corpse that wasn't killed by you, it flags you criminal (making you freely attackable by anyone) but also means that person does not get corruption when they attack someone back who attacked them. But this is usually a temporary setting, criminal status goes away after x minutes and you return back to your normal state.

After x minutes, the corpse because freely lootable without penalty.

I love this idea... the game could also simply give you a warning that looting these items will flag you as a combatant and give you an opportunity to reconsider.. this would hopefully help prevent you from accidently looting a corpse.

This right here, Ultima had a great reputation system - Criminal flagged and negative postive karma system. Really made you think about your actions -risk vs reward.

I personally believe that you shouldn't be able to loot someone's Ash pile unless your death was caused by PVP. If you die to a PVE mob the only one I should be able to loot your ashcorps is you

They need to adopt the Ultima Online route for this and Make players criminal for looting bodies.
  • kraav666kraav666 Member, Alpha Two
I am with Nanfoodle on this.

PVP death = lootable by anyone PVP flagged. PVE death = corpse is locked, and only the player that died can loot the corpse/gear.

I heavily disagree with loot locking. You die you risk losing your loot, doesn't matter who killed you. That's part of the risk involved. It goes against the pvx risk reward design of the game

Now, I do think you should be flagged for looting a non-ally body as that is an aggressive action.

I have only died twice and both times my own group members (pug) looted my bodies. Was playing cleric so I just refused to heal those people from them on.

Definitely seems like something community norms will have to develop around sooner than later

No. prioritize staying alive over your greed. bank early, bank often as they say. imo it should be full loot on death. The only way to make a decent pvp game, with a player driven economy.

I think it flagging you up or causing corruption to loot a player's corpse should be a bit of a given. I think it should open you up to being attacked by everyone for say 5 minutes and to the person whose items you grabbed for like 15 without consequence for the attackers. Should also prevent the person from being able to log out.

So long as a nametag is clearly labelled on ashes, this will suffice. If a friend's pile is there and you wish to defend it, you can do so. If you're in a group or with guildmates, they can do this. If you're risking it solo, it is reasonable to allow opportunists to snag it. This only promotes drama and social engagement, which is good.

How do you know your group members looted your body? Does it say in chat they did or were they the only ones there?
