Harvest Moon?

The title might seem a bit weird, but it tells exactly what i want to ask.
This is part of the info giving about housing:
"Homeowners in our game will have the ability to develop their plot of land as they see fit. Focus on farming, animal husbandry, or own your very own smithy. You’ll be able to specialize your land to maximize your profits or your comfort – be sure to choose wisely."

So will it be possible to make a harvest moon like experience within the game, where I purchase a plot of land and use it for farming and animal husbandry.
Practically:
Farming: Preparing the soil, planting the seeds, watering them and maybe needing a scarecrow to defend them from.... well crows, checking up their status and maybe needing some pesticides (or figthing giant slugs?) and depending on the earth i'm planting in fertilizing it first (manuer from Animal husbandry?).
Then Harvesting them in different qualities and even beeing able to get seeds of coresponding quality for the next harvest to install a higher quality crops line.

Animal Husbandry:
Taming Wild animals or Buying them from Merchants, breeding them to increase my herd and get higher quality animals. Beeing able to improve the quality of the animal products, be it by giving them better conditions (free range istead of keeping them in the barn all day), making them more comfortable around me (the Harvest noob hearth system?) or (as said above) bredding them to higher quality.

I would like it if there was a rather complex system that would allow for more options then: now you have it, come back every 25h to get some milk/wool/apples.
What do you guys think about that?

  • I'm in favor of a more complete experience for farming and land usage. I actually did like the aspect of Archeage that allowed for certain climates having effects on crops grown there.

I have a concern about making it too complicated however. Your farm on Ashes doesn't need to be chores. If I wanted to do chores I'd go fix the busted fence in my back yard or clean out my gutters. Making farming too complicated or mundane stops it being all that fun or accessable.

But that being said, I'd like to hear more about your ideas!
  • To say it simply, just a way to make it possible to tend to your animals and/or plants.
For example you can let your animals move outside of the barn to feed on growing grass or you can leave them inside of the barn they then will feed from prepared food (like straw). This could depend on the weather and the season: for example you can leave them outside during summer/spring/autumn but during winter you should move them inside, when it starts raining they could move for shelter by themselves so the player does not need to tend to them for every little weather change. Wild animals could be a concern if your Herd is grassing outside but maybe a guard dog could prevent them from attacking your animals (a risk in letting them go outside in exchange for better products?)

For the plants it could be possible to water them once every 24h and maybe fertilize them once every week, in harvest moon plants that are not watered will die after the second day, in here it could just be a slightly slower growth or maybe the player could hire a NPC-helper for a small amount if he does not want to take care of them for a few days (or for ever). We could go farther and even try to simulate illnesses and Bugs attacking your grops but that might be a bit to cumbersom.

There could also be things that go more into the preparation phase then the tending phase:
for example one could build a goit/moat so that plants do not need so much water anymore (could extend the watering need from once every 24h to once every 72h or something like that), or if we can keep bees then we could plant specific flowers next to the bee keeps and get different kinds of honey (or simply quality) depending on the flowers.

I agree with you that it should not be to stressing, especially if we are just talking about a small garden. If one player alone wants to have a gigantic field thought he should either have to work quit a bit for that (if he wants highest quality) or have to pay npcs (or other players?).
  • Yeah keep the farming a bit more simple then Archeage. Skip the watering please. Skip the every single individual seed. Nobody wants to spend an hour in game planting a 24x. Do keep it so certain mats grow in certain climates. Not everyone should have coconuts, and bananas. Not everyone should have wheat. That is what trade is for.
