Bards "Main Weapon"

spoonylove18spoonylove18 Member, Alpha Two
So the bard's current main weapon is a "spell book" that they use for their auto attacks. This seems off since, you know they are a bard. Is this the planned ending weapon for them? or is this just an Alpha place holder?

You can use any weapon in its magic version. My bard for example uses a shortbow and a 2h sword with spelldmg instead of physical damage.

The spell book doesnt bother me as much as the fact that out of combat we arent holding our instruments playing music. The spell book should be replaced by an instrument full time imo and our attacks fly out from said instrument.

Exactly my point. I think the spellbook is more of a "summoner" thing, give the bards their weapons!

Are you suggesting you want Bards to hit things with fiddles and lutes?

Weapon kits are separate to class kits. Every class can use every weapon and armor.

your basic "Q" auto attack is the weapon not the Class ability.

If you don't like the Spellbook don't use it.

I think what he's saying is he'd like to see instead of a spell book, which is more magey or wizardry, it would be your bard's instrument like shooting out the abilities and attacks as they play said instrument. Not like literally swinging a flute at an NPC.

    That's fair,

also, now that I understand the weapons system a bit more.. I now have a bow and I enjoy that. I just feel the bard starting with a caster book is odd to me

Its not about the WEAPON its about the fact that as music players you dont SEE us playing music unless we click to play a melody or ability. Our instruments should be "displayed" full time even if its actually a spell book in the "slot". You dont feel like a music playing character if you dont get to see yourself playing your music. The bard should feel immersed in the class visually, however playing musical abilities that shoot from your "spellbook" doesnt seem very bard-like.

I agree, I also don't like that it doesn't matter what instrument you pick.. your abilities always seem to play a flute or something

Not all Bards are musicians, some a just story tellers...in which case getting hit by words from a book is accurate...

You have your ability kit with musical notes and dances...The Bard is more fleshed out then you seem to see...

I'm also not a fan of converting everything into instruments and notes. I'm wearing leather and am shooting a bow.
The actual abilities look very Bard-y, that's enough for me. I don't need my arrows be replaced by notes. What would that even look like if you use a shortbow? LOL

Problem with that: Auto-Attacks and Finishers scale of Physical and not Magical Power. Which makes your Auto-Attacks super weak...

Nope. I tested it with both types, and spelldmg weapons produced bigger numbers.

Im using spell greatsword and a wand with focus. I lucked out on the greatsword dropping early on from some elite, sadly had no luck with a spell shortbow or even longbow, so had to buy a wand with a focus. For whatever reason vendors DO NOT SELL spell versions of all weapons :|

Also looking quickly at vendor item power scaling, it feels like 2 handed weapons provide bigger power boost, instead of something like 1 handed sword / wand and a focus. Weird.

Nope. Tested it too and he's correct. I found a spellbow that dropped with physical stats on my ranger. My auto hits are ass but my abilities hit hard now.

Spellbows w/ phys dmg on them are bugged; which is why you're getting the interaction w/ it you are.
Normal Spellbows will have spell power on them instead of phys power.

I haven't tested phys dmg bow vs spellbow so I can't say which hits harder w/ auto attacks. I have a lvl 10 uncommon (green) short spellbow and the auto attacks avg ~40-50 or so IIRC.

It doesn't matter anymore now, anyway, since we'll have to keep casting spells nonstop to maintain stacks.
I'll take a break from this class. Maybe they'll do another redesign.

Well I had a spellbow and a spell-2h sword, and both were an incredible boost.

I honestly hope the "book" is a placeholder. The "Book" makes more sense for a Mage type. I agree 100% that I'd prefer a lute or a some other bard like image starter weapon.

Book is just the starter werapon.
I use Great Spellsword and Short Spellbow. Your main weapon can be whatever you want as long as it gives Magic Power.

lumbermilling vendors sell spellbows. There's one group of profession vensors and stations to the west of Lionhold and then you can also buy them in the lumbermilling station when a node build ones (which may be a challenge depending on your server)
